Guys ! This is really getting to me now.
One of my headlights is glowing orange, the round domed type.
VX say a replacement bulb is around £100.00 as its "xeon". They also say it may be the "control unit" that sits behind it at a mere £270.00
How the heck am I supposed to know whats at fault and why are Xeon head light bulbs for the Omega online at around a tenner.
I'm well confused to say the least.
-
HID is the correct term, the xenon can also refer to traditional 'halogen' type bulbs filled with xenon gas.
From Vaux, they are expensive
You can also get cheapies from ebay, £30-40 a pair
I would go down the middle route and find a pair of osram or phillips D2S bulbs in 4300k, 5000k, or 6000k tops. I would do a pair as the colours are unlikely to be a match, and one often follows the other.
The cheap ones are not the best illumination and often fail quickly.
Your symptoms are of a knackered bulb, mine did similar before dying.
-
They're not cheap!! I paid about £70 to have one fitted not so long ago.
-
Swap your bulbs left to right. A bit of a fiddly job but you are then sure if you need a bulb or not.
-
Jim and Bob especially...thank you SO much for your advice.
So the named "osram or phillips D2S bulbs in 4300k, 5000k, or 6000k tops" are the bulbs inside the strange domed shaped lights...thats what I need to get hold of ?
Bob.....which kind company/person changed one for £70.00 for you please.
-
yup, the dome is just the lens, the bulb sits inside.
-
BE VERY CAREFUL!!!! These HID bulbs use a high voltage! :y
-
He he he he....So that expalins the german sticker with a bloke getting frazzled then.
Halfrauds don't want to know and main dealers want a fortune.
Can get them for about £60 a pair BUT just need someone to fit for me.
-
..... BUT just need someone to fit for me.
they're only the same as fitting a 'normal' lamp/bulb, the hardest bit is getting your hand in behind the battery. :y
-
It's much easier to remove the complete headlight assembly ;)
-
jeeeeeeeeeeez !
Even more reason to try to find someone to fit them then...
-
You only have to remove the trim strip under the light unit and undo 3 screws, pull it out and unplug it :-?
-
Seriously...As simple as that ?
Whats with all the warnings not to fiddle with the black unit at the back then, the HID control unit or what ever it is.
I'm bald already....got no more hair to lose if I go bang !
