So I join a dual carriageway this morning, go to overtake and use sports mode. Engine winds itself up and the emissions light goes on and then flashes :'(.
At this point I then back off and the light is lit but not flashing. Now the engine is running lumpy and unresponsive and idling badly.
What are the consequences, if any? Will a pedal test show anything more?
Will this clear itself when I go home as the engine will have had time to cool down etc. or is it permanent, in which case do I need to "Consult a Vauxhall Dealership" as the manual advises...
(The car suffered from the pre-cat problem when I bought it and recon cats were fitted so never saw the light on since).

Time to get the fault codes read (pedal trick)
-
Done the pedal trick, twice to be sure and here's what it said:
P0300 Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected
P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0305 Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected
So, perhaps the car objected to me giving it some beans and the reason for rough running means it's in limp mode.
Haven't turned the engine over as yet, so what's the diagnosis?

missfire on 1,3 and 5 suggests the coil pack for that bank, check for oil in the plug wells, most likely if there is any its shorting the coil pack.

Looks like I might have got away with it. No emissions light when I drove home tonight and no lumpy running...
-
maybe it was just a little vexed for some reason

I've not given it an Italian tune up for some time and it probably didn't like the combination of sports mode and 5k rpm at the same time ;).

Pleased you are now sorted, lets hope thats the end of it :y

Still worth a peek under the coil pack on that bank just in case it's filling up with oil, IMHO.
