Title: Snow
Post by: Bill_Oddie on 17 December 2010, 19:01:42
Bit scary driving a rear wheel drive in the snow isnt it?

I drove home tonight, first trip in the snow in the V6.

I pressed the button ontop of the auto gearstick marked 'S', which I presume is for the snow?

It felt as though the car changed gear later so I presume this is for saftey?

i think the s is for sport.. isn't it?? if it changes gears later at higher revs its dangerous on snow. yesterday snowed for the first time here. with continental wintercontact tyres, full tank and 3 slabs of concrete in the trunk i absolutely had no problem in 15cm of snow. i have no tc or esp or anything like it, just a manual 2,2 dti :)

;) Yes, the 'S' button setting is especially good on black-ice. :y

To make best use of the 'snowflake' button, you have to lower the tyre pressures to 2 PSI; when you do, you`ll be absolutely amazed at the difference it makes to the way the car handles! 8-)

Yes Bill, the "S" button stands for slide, and when on snow, or even better ice, select it and then hammer down on the accelerator.  You go some distant then without using any fuel! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

I usually find it works best when towing a caravan up to 90 mph.

This was funny on the first day, it isn't anymore. some of the replies although mostly hilarious & mostly tongue firmly in cheek are causing genuine confusion to some 'real' new/ish members ? Time you took the hint 'Bill' & departed to another alter ego? :-*

Big button with a snow flake on it next to the gear stick, did that not trigger something to think that was the snow button?  ::)
