When i press the foot brake (automatic) and its a bit slippy on the roads i get a pinging noise from the offside front brake and it fells like it then grates :-/ There also feels to be a bit of back pressure from the pedal.
Doesn't do it if the road is clear, its almost like the brakes won't lock up, is it possible that i have air in the ABS as someone mentioned and if so how do i rectify, need to keep car safe and on the road.
TIA Dave :y

I've wondered the same. Everyhting seems to be ok with the brakes but that noise is strange... Does appear only when the abs is working and only on the left side (drivers side here, offside in some peculiar countries ::) ;D :y )
-
;D we drive on the correct side, it's all you lot that are peculiar ;D ;)
Think tech2 has a programme for bleeding the abs etc....

A horrible grinding noise and a pulsating pressure felt through the brake pedal seem to be normal features of Vauxhall A.B.S.

Wouldn't it do it from both wheels though :-?

depends on road surface/grip and if both wheels are about to lock up. ;)
-
Does it on sheet ice on works carpark, would expect both wheels to lock up as no grip at all.
Just doesn't feel quite right somehow :-?
-
If it's any consolation Dave, mine does it as well.
Just thought crap ABS system.
-
I don't think that air in system could do that. Sound is like a loose pipe hits steel (but no loose brake lines). Just annoying, I think... And, three here having the same issue so it won't be a problem :y

From what you have described, it sounds like the ABS is only working on your Off Side, which could mean a faulty sensor on your Near Side, or a problem with the sensor lead. If you had an air bubble in the brake pipe on one side I think you would experience the car pulling to one side during normal braking.
Others may have a different explanation :y

The grinding noise is from the abs pump, not the wheels?
-
As is the pinging noise. All perfectly normal ABS operations. :y
-
But why do i never hear/feel it from the nearside :-? :-?
So it's not broken then just sh1te :o

The a.b.s. pump is mounted on the near (to the kerb) side of the vehicle.
