Turned the stereo down today and noticed a double knock when i turn right and another two as i straighten up :( and the car has been moving around a bit for a month or so under breaking and over bumps, i thought my budget steering idler had given up! but cannot see the steering idler making that much noise?
:(HUMBUG!!!!

droplinks?
-
wishbone bushes.
-
If the rearward wishbone bush fails badly enough it can allow the wishbone to rub on the subframe bracket, also check steering knuckle wishbone to hub, top shock mount bearing, does the top shock mount move smoothly when viewed from the engine bay?
If it clicks turning lock to lock while parked that should help to diagnose if there's an assistant handy.

cannot be the wishbones only had them replaced just over a year ago! just got to hope its something cheap like the droplinks

If you put cheapo ones on, and you have done alot of miles and/or had a few pothole incidents it can be

supposed to be the good ones, pete an daz fitted them. even if they were the cheapo ive done less than 5000 miles since they were fitted so its got to be somthing else im gonna jack her up 2mora at work ;D!

them cheap idlers can last up to a week, if it moves up and down then get a proper one, it can allso damage the the bushes as extra pull on them from idler failing. makes clunking,,, they dont put good rubber in them.

not good both wishbones are shot! the nearside is almost metal on metal :'(

Pete & Myself haven't worked together for almost 18 months, but we used to buy the Wishbones from Buy Parts Buy.
As far as I know Lemforder Wishbones last at best 2 years, so would not expect Buy Parts Buy ones to last that long being honest. Vauxhall ones are by far the best which arent Lemforder ones no matter anyone says but they are far more expensive to buy them.
Hope that helps :y

there a false economy then! only any good if your gonna sell the car on. gm originals are the only way to go if your intending on keeping the car, i was ill when you and pete repaired the car so the details are vague but i do remember you saying that the Lemforder wishbones that i was having fitted were as good as the gm originals!! im not attaching any blame here just that i don't think i would have had Lemforder fitted if i knew i would be replacing them less than 18 months later!

I would never have said that Lemforder Wishbones are the same or as good as Vauxhall. The reason I know that is because I only fit Genuine Vauxhall to my own cars, and not everyone is happy paying over £400 for them. Other people claim that Lemforder make Wishbones for Vauxhall, I personally DONT. The reason being I have seen a few pairs of Lemforder Wishbones only last 2 years... where as Vauxhall ones will do 10 years, so I agree with you they are false economy.

Plus, I'll need to check, but the quite comprehensive history mentions a complaint of tram lining by the original owner after 4 years iirc. Cause suggested to be soft bushes. There is no record of new wishbones being fitted btw...
