Title: Loss of power
Post by: willerby on 14 April 2010, 20:55:28
Hello . Its difficult to explain my problem but here goes .Drove the car all day Monday and it was running fine . Got in the car late afternoon and it was sluggish and running 'lumpy' . Next day stared ok but still 'lumpy' but when up to speed it was fine . When you accelerated the engine vibrated like a machine gun going off , if you eased back it was ok . Took it to garage and they changed the plugs and said all was ok . On drive home same problem but much less severe . Any ideas ? Thanks  :-/

Coil pack at a guess....can you remove it and look for rust and damage.

Any oil in the plug wells?

I have had a look at the coil pack and it looks ok , no damage or rust . Is there any checks that can be done to it apart from a visual look .

Did you actually remove the coil pack & check the rubber plug covers for damage or deterioration? :-?

Hello , new problem started today. No power when you put your foot down and the engine has an uneven idle. Could it be the coil pack again.

Did you fit a new genuine GM one or a second hand pattern one?

non genuine.

Get a warranty replacement on the Coil Pack you bought in April.  It is relatively unlikely the Coil Pack has failed in 6 months (even though it is non genuine) but it is still under warranty and it will at least eliminate the pack as a potential problem.  :y

HAve you had the codes read, might give you a better idea as to where to start looking ;)

Started the car this morning no problem. looked under the bonnet to try and see if anything was loose etc but saw that the cooling fan was running with a stone cold engine. Drove the car about 20 miles with no problems and checked under bonnet again and fan was not running. Does this indicate anything.

hi, mate, i have found that the climate control uses the cooling fan, selecting ECO mode or turning off the climate control might have turned the fans off, worth knowing for future reference

daft question but is your air con on, have you tried a bit of redex, is the air filter ok.

Sounds like you have an electrical fault, but I agree with Dave get to your VX dealer to stick their diagnosis computer in, otherwise you might do more damage to 'whatever' is playing up!
I also have a Laguna2 and I had the same sort of problem that you're describing, I had to have the coils changed, however they remapped (updated my ECU with new codes) it ran lumpy to start with and it would hit the limiter at 3000rpm!! Anyway 5000kms later it eventually cleared..

Does it sound tappety?
Did you pressure wash under the bonnet at all because you may have still water somewhere causing the problem?

Anyway I hope you sort it out soon!! =)

Willerby where abouts are you maybe some one local with a code reader could take a look, my advice stay away from VX dealers they'll probably try and play tetris on the TECH 2 as opposed to diagnosing a problem (then charge you daft money)

As long as the coil pack was a bosch unit it should be fine.

Could do with a bit more info from you like when was car last serviced (DIY or garage), what was done and i say again what codes are showing.

Does it run any better with the MAF unplugged?

Thanks for all the advice. Switched the air con etc on/off and yes I now see what you mean, when on the cooling fan runs :-* learn something new every day. Serviced by a garage 2 months ago. The car has run OK all today so I'll see how it goes. Will a fault code show if it is running ok ?     Braintree area of Essex.

Car has started being slightly hesitant again yesterday and the same today. Starts, tick over, revs and runs ok when up to speed. But when you accelerate it has a very slight hesitant feel to it until the revs build up. :-/

Finally had a chance to work on the car. I disconnectd the MAF as suggested and the car appears to run better. Drove it about 2 miles and all was ok. Plug the MAF back in and did 2 miles back and it appearedto be ok also. I would like to drive the car further with the MAF disconnected , How far can it be driven with it disconnected? and are there any test to do on the MAF?
