Title: Heat Shield Fallen Off?
Post by: Radar on 31 December 2010, 11:36:37
The image below shows what was under my car this morning. Can anyone tell me where it has fallen off from and how easy is it to refit?

It's one of the heatshields off the cat pipe. A couple of big jubilee clips will hold it and it's opposite back into place :y

How far down the car is this and will i need to jack it up?

Will it be dangerous if i don't do it for a while.

Thanks

It should not be an issue if it is not replaced but you may notice some increased heat through the floor of the cabin and maybe some underseal becomeing very soft with the extra heat. Replace it when you can, but you will need to get the car up in the air a bit to fit it properly.

I'd re-fit it fairly soon as looking at the shape it's the body side of the heatsink. It is near the front passenger side, you should be able to see the lower heatsink still in place where the cat pipe turns paralel to the car floor.

check and see if the fibres are still on the pipe, or still get hot on floor and may melt the under seal off and paint.

Just had a look and you'reome apart from spot on Lee :y. I did however notice also that the "mesh" thing (flexipipe?) has come apart at the back (it is still intact at the front). Can this be replaced by itself or welded back. Any recommendations?

It can be changed on it's own, I've done a few now, but it needs to be welded on. You'll need to have a look on eGay for a 102mm (4") long by 51mm (2") bore flexi pipe :y

PM Sent.

Could this cause the car to make a loud clackety clack sound when started on cold days?
