Title: MPG 3.2V6
Post by: Omega Man on 03 January 2011, 17:47:49
Just have a question, is it better to slowly accelerate up to speed or get there quickly and then cruise or does it make no difference?  :-?

You haven't brought yourself a 3.2 to worry about fuel consumption, just drive it like you stole it ;) ;D

They use less fuel on overrun but use more on hard acceration so a balance between the two is the ideal :y

do you have instantaneous fuel consumption on your display? If so, set it to that before you floor it, it'll go down to 7.1mpg!  :y :y :y

Thats about right for day to day. On a motorway run, assuming you keep it below Instant Ban territory, easily achieve over 30mpg.  My 3.2 is currently reading 23.7mpg, but I've always been in a hurry due to being late everywhere ::)

25 mpg from your 3.2? I'm assuiming it's an auto? That's bloody good! I only manage 20 ish but then most of my journeys are short. I got 35 on my last long run at 75-80

Indeed, I got 19 on my last few tanks and I was driving like a granny..

Really should give it a proper service and check the cambelt was done right at the last interval (4k ago). Ah, motivation, where did you go?

Yeah, well the unfortunate thing for me is I give it regular oil changes (3k), I've put all new filters, fluids and plugs in (and i mean all) and i still only get 20 ish. I too suspect cambelt timing. I have nowhere else to go to improve mpg after the cam belt timing so hope it is this. (I do fairly short journeys and drive normally)

They say they got the locking/timing kit and i believe them, just not so sure they used it right!

My motivation has done a runner aswell!

Not bothered about fuel consumption that much TBH, as long as it doesn't get drastically worse! If I was I'd get a boring diesel.

Although when the Omegas go, my love affair with cars will be over, and it will only be a means of transport then.

I like the Omega in general, but I'd have thought that any one with a love of cars would be able to find an alternative. After all an Omega is a product of a mass market car manufacturer.  ::) ::) ::)

Ah yes, but i think the Omega is a perfect compromise of many different desirable aspects in a car, only excelling in one - comfort, and meeting more than acceptable levels for the rest. I'm not bothered about 'the ultimate driving experience' or whatever people who drive BMWs call it, who don't know their arse from a sump plug.

When the migs go it'll be something cheap and cheerful, a low maint 4 pot fwd diesel, preferably non commonrail and non turbo so I can whack aload of wvo in, automatic aswell, it's got to be automatic.

I have a cheapo £400 Astra Td off eBay that I use from day to day, so I suppose that you could say I have the best of both worlds. Apart from it being a FWD 'shit box'  ;D it has 3 pedals ......  you do eventually get used the extra pedal though.

Very interesting reading this thread,as this has also steered me into thinking if my timing belt is correct aswell,as i am currently getting 18 mpg :-/.Admitting i am always driving around with the fuel light on,still reckon i should be doing better.Would really like to sort it,as its actually forced me to put it up for sale. :'(

Yeah, just don't do what I did when swapping between manual and automatic - brake with your left foot and nearly put yourself through the windscreen! What a gimp I am! ::)

I do drive my auto Omega with two feet  ;) as I do with SWMO's Smart. Plenty of practice though.  ;)

My 3.2 returns about 23ish, and that includes a bit of everything! Never ever seen 35 though, have seen about 32 at best driving very carefully on a motorway  ::) ::)
