hi guys, my w reg mig is giving me some trouble and i love her so much i just want her fixed but i feel im not really getting anywhere with my local vauxhall garage.
ill give you step by step details of the story as im hoping someone can help me:
1. last year vauxhall put in a new coil pack cos it lost virtually all power. that worked fine
2. october 2010 the revs start jumping around during idle so on here everyone suggested i needed to clean the ICV and get something on that replaced if need be.
3. i took it to vaux and they said that it was running fine and was probably due to the age of the car but nothing to worry about
hmmmmm
4.lately its been running like an absolute pig. as well as the revs jumping whenever we are stationery it now wont accelerat e very well and between 50-70 it judders like a bitch.
5. vaux have now replaced the silencer which had apparently disintergrated and the lack of power was due to the debris this had caused.
6. all well and good but its still got the same probs at 50-70 and its going in tomorrow cos they reckon sum leads need replacing..... at another cost of around another 150 quid.
i just want my omega fixed. is what theyre doing correct (if so ill hand the money over without question) or is something going wrong???????????????????? :'( :'( :'(
thanks in advance

I would suggest you stay away from the dealers and get in touch with one of the mobile mechanics from here, let them give your car a seeing to.
-
correct me if i'm way off but is that not a sign of the cam sensor going??
-
In Northampton you pretty central, so there are several people not that far away who know what their doing. ;)
-
my one on idle witout the aircon on is pretty crappy (low) :ywith aircon on it is stable
I got a "My Naff Code Reader" diagnostic thing last week the only fault it found was the ecu for the sunroof ....which wouldnt close when i first got the car ...ho ho fun that was...
-
I agree with mr Green. :)d Had same prob with rev counter and my mech said it was that. He trained & worked at vauxhall before setting up on his own. placed hiscode reader and eh presto.
From what I've read someone on here has a reader who should be able to help. 8-)

Cam sensor is an extremely rare failure on the V6, very doubtful it`s gonna be that

Call me suspicious, but do you know what this sounds like to me? It sounds like the garage are trying to earn a few quid out of you without actually fixing whats wrong with your car.
I'd stay away from that place if I were you. There's several chaps on here who know their onions when it comes to Omegas, (Mark DTM, Wellung and Darth Loo Knee?)

My thoughts exactly. I wouldn`t be surprised if all it needs is the breathers and ICV sorted and a thorough check for what sounds like a vac leak

Spot on for me! If the revs are up and down at idle look for the vac leak, while you are at it change the leads and plugs if they need it - cost a damn sight less than £150. If you don't fancy doing it yourself get one of guys off the forum to do it and get it done right. :y

Worth trying a paper clip test first to see if there are any codes stored.
Does it judder under light load (cruising), full load (accelerating) or both?
If there are stored codes these should be investigated. If not, check plugs and leads, and ensure the plug wells have not filled with oil.

you could make a paper aeroplane out of him or a speed bump??? you decide.. ;D ;D ;D
-
Clearly its a miss fire so plug leads is a possible....but I am wondering if there sat in a bath of oil....
Grose's are not known for thier ability at fixing complex things.

thanks for all the info guys. its been really useful.
it really sounds like theyre trying to pull a fast one although i dont have the knowledge of cars to know if its right.
how do i go about seeing if one of the omega gods on here could have a look? should i go to a meet near me? :) :) :)
thanks again guys

Grose's (presume thats who you have used) aren't the worse by a long shot, but like many Vauxhall Dealers, are generally unable to fix a fault 'unless the computer tells them to'.
Lumpy idle is normally air leak. If its running awful at driving speed, and no codes stored, I'd be inclined to check HT side, as others have suggested.

problem with main dealers most are o k at changing damaged parts (at a stupid cost ) but when you want a fault finding they don't care if its an old car sell him a new one i hear !!!!!!!!
