Hi there i have a 2.2 cd auto iam having some slight issues with gearbox. Sometimes when accelerating from about 10mph my auto box is very reluctant to change up this is under normal use not kickdown ,it revs to 4000rpm then changes up.It does not do it all the time normally changes up smoothly at normal revs. There are no codes present and all warning lights go out after start up. Any ideas many thanks paul.

If it changes up in the morning or when you first start it up (when it's cold), it's normal. It does this to heat the ATF up to working temperature.
Not wanting to state the obvious, but make sure your sports modes is off! We've all had our moments!

Hi again thanks for the reply, the sport mode is off, the changing up at higher than normal rpm seems to occur more often when up to temp. When having to stop to turn right then accelerate is when it seems to occur.

... It does this to heat the ATF up to working temperature.
......
It over revs first thing to help the catalytic converters hot sooner. ;) ;) ;)

I knew it was to heat something up!
I thought that's what the SAI is for, to heat up cats quicker.
Now someone is going to tell me the 2.2 doesn't have SAI! I know one of the engines doesn't!

Tell me to shut up if I'm stating the obvious, but the harde you put your foot down and accelerate, will make the box change up later/higher in the rev range. If you drive sedately it will change up quicker.
How long have you had it? Was it different before and now it's just started doing this?

That's all you can do with a 2.2 with 3 bags of sand and a load of other rubbish in the boot for weight.... ::) ::) ::)

Had car about 6 months been like it all time.Your not stating the obvious but when it does it you could drive at 30mph smoothly and it will just rev its nuts off without changing up untill you put your foot down to make it change up.when ok it changes up smoothly as it should when accelerating gently.

My knowledge of gear boxes is limited.
I don't think the 2.2 can use the pedal trick or paperclip trick to read the codes. You should update your profile with your location and hopefully a member might be able to read your codes to try to find out what the problem is.
Some people have sorted gearbox gremlins by changing the fluid and filter. Here is a guide i wrote on doing it:

Depending on the known history/miles/condition and whether or not it's been done before you might want to do it. Regardless of the fault.
