Title: Fuel trim malfunction??
Post by: RobseyMV6 on 06 January 2011, 22:49:37
P0170 Fuel trim malfunction (Bank 1)
P0173 Fuel trim malfunction (Bank 2)

Has come up on my 3.2 auto and is acting funny after 4000rpm just won't go just holds back like a limp mode maybe but will still speed up once in high gear....
Any ideas what the problem may be???

Fuel trim errors can be caused by several things...

Any zorst leaks can exagerate the symptoms. First port of call is the MAF/air intake temp sensor though. Can you get any live data on those 2?

Yep, if you have a spare MAF lying around it's certainly worth trying. Bear in mind that it will have built up a large fuel trim, so it might run a little odd after the MAF change too. If you've got a code reader, clear the codes when you change the MAF as this also resets the fuel trims. :y

Indeed.

For both faults to appear at the same time it needs to be a single item which affects both banks.....thats the MAf (as pretty much everything else is duplicated on a per bank basis)

Update:

Changed maf
changed ecu
changed gearbox ecu

Unpluged battery with every change not EML light has gone but still will not rev fast over 4000rpm and won't change gear.... would it be low on ATf in gearbox? its just holding back, so odd with all that has been replaced!

No air temp sensor on this omega
Fuel filter??

Rams not working will give poor low down torque and not loss of upper end power.

Change the fuel filter first if it looks goosed.

Willy nilly part changing just adds a load more unknowns into the equation.
