P0170 Fuel trim malfunction (Bank 1)
P0173 Fuel trim malfunction (Bank 2)
Has come up on my 3.2 auto and is acting funny after 4000rpm just won't go just holds back like a limp mode maybe but will still speed up once in high gear....
Any ideas what the problem may be???

Fuel trim errors can be caused by several things...
Any zorst leaks can exagerate the symptoms. First port of call is the MAF/air intake temp sensor though. Can you get any live data on those 2?

As Lee says. Also check the rear multi-ram re; holding @ 4K revs
-
Thanks will look at this tomorrow, will replace maf and temp with one i have here and report back, thank you! :y

That was going to be step 2 ;) ;D

Good to be one step ahead :D ;D

Yep, if you have a spare MAF lying around it's certainly worth trying. Bear in mind that it will have built up a large fuel trim, so it might run a little odd after the MAF change too. If you've got a code reader, clear the codes when you change the MAF as this also resets the fuel trims. :y

My money is on MAF, replace it and no more 0170/0173 :y

Yep mine too :y

Indeed.
For both faults to appear at the same time it needs to be a single item which affects both banks.....thats the MAf (as pretty much everything else is duplicated on a per bank basis)

Update:
Changed maf
changed ecu
changed gearbox ecu
Unpluged battery with every change not EML light has gone but still will not rev fast over 4000rpm and won't change gear.... would it be low on ATf in gearbox? its just holding back, so odd with all that has been replaced!
No air temp sensor on this omega
Fuel filter??

Yes there is ;) It's built into the MAF.

;D ;D then i need :y

Are the rear multi-rams kicking in when you hit 4k rpm?
-
When was the fuel filter last changed?
-
There was a fuel filter in boot when i got the car it looks old on the car, will do in morning, rams not checked as no one here to look while i rev.... morning now, but really thank you for all things so far :y
-
Rams not working will give poor low down torque and not loss of upper end power.
-
Its ok up till 4000rpm area sometimes better then others from lights.... might change injector rail and inlet tomorrow to. after all that i'm lost with the problem
-
Change the fuel filter first if it looks goosed.
Willy nilly part changing just adds a load more unknowns into the equation.
-
Will update tomorrow, thanks!

Rams not working and no air left in vac pipe when pull off on top right of engine, this the vac box problem?
-
Replaced vac box and fuel filter with the same problems :( took pipe off back top right off engine while running and is sucking check all vac pipes they are ok.
-
Change chank sensor coil packs even tied multi ram open and still does the same just holds gear at just over 4000rpm engine is dead! driven alot of omegas in my time and i can't work this one out, time for tech 2 i think?

Blocked exhaust? :-/
