Inhibitor switch (as in the interlock which prevents you starting the engine in gear) is built into the gearbox selector switch on the side of the gearbox.

More about that here:

ah right, so its not a switch by itself, so i need the selector switch off the side of gearbox, am i likely to get a selector switch second hand without buying a whole gearbox and what should i be paying?

there should be 2nd hand avalable, proably via the lads here that break cars. What's up with yours? There's a guide in the maintenance section re cleaning & regreasing the selctor switch.

if it is the selector switch you need, might be worth cleaning or repairing the one you got.
there is a guide to this common problem somewhere ..

hello mate its not my car, someone asked me what the switch was and i didnt know, hence why i asked on here, all i know at the min is his is broken somewhat!
just had a look on ebay it seems for not too much more you can buy a whole gearbox than oppose to buying just the selector switch!

Does he mean the selector switch on the side of the gearbox or the interlock switch under gearlever gaiter. Yellow one

If its the inhibitor switch then its easiest to swap the whole gear lever assembly over as the solenoid is rivited in place.

Its quite an easy thing to replace.

I've got one available if you want one - but they are are also readily available on ebay.
