Right, just cos youve changed parts, it doesnt mean they are working, new does not guarantee that unfortunately.

Youve changed a lot of parts, and therefore added a lot of unknowns.

The main sensor to cause grief on the 2.2 is the CAM, which also throughs up other spurious codes all too often.

Do you still have any of your old parts to try swapping back with?

Do you have your own computer, or using someone elses?  be nice to clear all codes and start again.

hi there jimbob i have cleared all error codes with obd machine the problem seems to be since ive fitted the new crank sensor i have also been told that the atf in the gearbox could be low and that the selector switch could possibly do with a clean is this true the cam sensor is a genuine vx one fitted as advised i do have the old crank sensor and cam sensor when i brought the car the eml light and the car and spanner light was on i fitted the new maf sensor and the eml light went out if that helps

Right, you`ve cleared all the codes. Have you started & driven it a short distance to generate a "present" code (as you say it`s in limp mode)

Refit all the original bits and start again. Were the parts you fitted genuine Vx parts or aftermarket?

Where are you?

Right, you need to double check all wiring & connections on cam & crank sensors. P1700 is a service request for the autobox. Ideally you need to get box codes read as well but an ATF check/change would be a good starting point

the cam sensor and maf sensor are vx the crank is aftermarket

When my cam sensor went i had the P1700 as well ... something about " MIL request from Transmission " or something along those lines , cant remember what it was exactly but that went when i did the cam sensor ... is it a possible duff sensor  :-/

Because it`s aftermarket (normally crap). Stick the original one back on and see what happens

4 pots will run with a broken crank sensor but like a bag of spanners.

andy b it was running fine before i did the crank sensor it was changed purely because i couldn,t get rid of the light but i think that could be more to do with the level of fluid in the box or service rather than the crank sensor many thanks for all your help i will change and start again

one of the other guys on here suggested i put it back what do u think if the car was running fine before i put this aftermarket in all that was wrong was the car and spanner light was on so sorry so it could be that it was more gearbox related

Before you changed the crank sensor were you getting an 0335 code
Title: Re: omega 2.2 auto facelift car and spanner light
Post by: alan36 on 25 January 2011, 20:49:30
rpm signal incorrect, and 2 p1700 codes i do believe

Post by: alan36 on 25 January 2011, 20:53:20
each time we cleared the error codes it would let me do possibly 4 miles the flick the light on then someone suggested it could be the crank sensor after already changing the cam sensor
Title: Re: omega 2.2 auto facelift car and spanner light
Post by: RobG on 25 January 2011, 20:53:40
Definitely 0335 or were you getting 0340

I think one of the sensors is not working .... im sure the gearbox codes are caused by the sensors telling the box to go limp ( pardon the pun  ;D )
As i said before when my cam sensor went i had the same P1700 and limp mode ... im sure the box is ok  hopefully:-/

As lee said Alan, this is the best thing to do before anything else, it puts you back in the original position you were in & you can then faultfind in sequence until you find the real culprit instead of changing all & sundry & going round in circles. Clean the original crank sensor with some meths or other alcohol based cleaner which wont leave a residue when wiped off.  :y

On reading this, everything points to the cam sensor, when you say you fitted a genuine one, did you purchase it from a Vx dealer, or someone selling Vx parts?

The crank sensor needs to be swopped back with the original, as this is causing other faults.

My money is still on cam sensor, having been through this headache myself.

The gearbox on a 2.2 will go into limp mode, if the ECU thinks there is an engine fault.

A lot of places sell 'genuine' Vx parts, but the only place to get genuine is from a Vx dealer.

Where abouts in the country are you?
