Thought id post this here in case any of you guys who use Tech 2 with laptops might be intrested.
Recently bought whilst in Hong Kong (december 2007)...great laptop but just picked up a nice Dell Inspiron.
Basic specs are....
Intel celeron 540 processor 1.86 Ghz,533 MhzFSB,1 Mb L2 Cache.
15.4 WXGA Acer crystalbrite LCD
64 mobile Intel graphics
80 GIG hard drive
Media accelerator x3100
512mb DDR2 (Takes up 2Gb ram)
DVD Super Multi Drive
5 in 1 Card Reader
Wi Fi built in.
Built in mic
Blue tooth
4 usb slots
1 Mini usb
Vista basic license
Ive reloaded XP Pro as im not keen on Vista and i had no need to upgrade the ram as i knew 512mb would be sufficient for xp...missing a couple of drivers according to device manager (Video controller and video controller (vga compatible)...available from Acer driver site but not needed them so haven't bothered with them.
Keyboard is American layout...main difference is the @ is on No.2 key as opposed to above shift key,can easily be switched to English configuration in XP but really has"nt made any difference too me so Ive left it as is.
So all in all a good little laptop unfortunately now surplus to requirements.
Ive not got my digi cam with me at work so ive used a pic from the acer site however i will add more detailed pics of the laptop tonite.
Pic is just too give you an idea how it looks.
Price is £250 including delivery.
More specs can be found here...(mine vary slightly but give you an idea of price new ect)
I"ll leave a fresh install of either XP pro or Vista so you can open the box and check all is as promised,i would of course expect you to reload XP with your own XP disk if this was the chosen operating system.

You forgot the most vital piece of information...
Does it have a real serial port?

Ummmmmm ;D
Ive just asked one of the techs on site and he says it doesn't...apparently modern laptops need a usb to serial port adapter about £12 apparently.

It doesn't work very well with the adapter apparently

Oh well at least they can make high quality copies of there cam belt dvd"s with the very nice built in DVD re-writer. ;D

X3100 implies 965 mobile chipset, so no chance of a real serial port, so will NOT work with cheapo Tech2, VAGCOM or similar. It will work, with a usb2serial lead (after some friggin) with a real Tech2.
