as above my 2.2 omega has been running rough for a week thought it was the egr so blanked that off but didnt help. so i checked the spark plugs and noticed they were all covered in oil expecialy plug 4, would this cause the car to run rough?
i assume the oil is coming through the rocker cover gasket or could this be something more serious?
oh i had the spanner light come up for a while too but has since stayed off :-?

cool nice easy fix then! was worried it was something major! is there anything else i should look out for on the 2.2 engine?

Only use genuine camshaft cover gasket NOT pattern one, as you'll end up doing the job twice ::)

As already said, only use genuine GM gaskets & seals & black sealant. Also remove all the oil from the plug orifices & check the condition of the plug covers on the Dis Pack
& remove the plugs to check no oil has been getting past any loose ones & gumming them up. The major killer of 2.2 headgaskets is poor coolant servicing! If yours hasn't been changed in a good while, thoroughly flush the cooling system & refill with a 50/50 VX red coolant/water mix. :y

right changed gasket, o rings and spark plugs. cleaned the rubber breather pipes. couldn't get sump breather gasket so will clean that when i get gasket.
did notice one of the rubber spark plug covers on the dis pack was slightly split
any way car is revving alot better still idles a bit rough though.
gonna change coolant tommorow.

This could be the cause of your rough idle. The split plug cover can allow spark tracking & misfire. New replacement covers are available seperately, although the Stealers will tell you they only come as a set! >:( Oh, & the main breather pipe at the back of the engine is the main one to clean, don't leave it too long! ;) :y

you wouldnt know the part number for the rubber covers would you? and would a motor factors sell them or is it a dealer only thing?

Spark Plug rubber boot replacement kit
GM (Dealer number not mine ;D) is: 9195820 for 4cyl's
Kit comes with x4 boots and x4 new springs :y
And if memory serves me correctly think I only paid around £13 from the dealers. Mind you that was about 12mths ago, so could well have gone up a bit.

Try to explain best as I can via written form:
If they haven't been glued in some form by the previous owner not knowing, the boots should just slide off leaving the spring. The spring then can simply be pulled off it's locking position (may need bit of force?). Refitting the new springs little bit awkward getting them to lock back on, but not rocket science. Maybe best to wear some gardening gloves or similar (if you have soft skin ::) ) as get a better grip to get the spring back onto the dispack. Then the new boot slides over the spring and onto the dispack.
