Title: rear noise
Post by: fiend61 on 04 February 2011, 12:53:46
hi all
right my car has just started making a strange noise from the rear somewhere but only from cold and only when driven in reverse (manual box) it sounds like something rubbing or the sound a drying bearing makes, thing is it doesnt do it when warmed up or when the car is pushed,
i'm stumped  :-/
any help in what i should be checking  :(
thanks

Hi, I would check the exhaust mounting rubbers as when they ware you can get movement in the pipes.
Try pushing the exhaust from side to side and see if the systems just rubs on the dif....as mine did !

see where you are coming from iainb  ;) but it would do that going forward not just in reverse i would have thought also when being pushed would create the noise aswell  :-/
this only happens when cold and driven slowly in reverse  :'(
is there anything that could be 'drying' out  :question

Chances are that the handbrake actuator mechanisms have partially seized and aren't releasing straight away.
