Title: Yellow Coolant cap
Post by: SP_3.2 on 07 February 2011, 13:24:16
Odd one this...but have a spare cap around and it has two holes on the under side ... if i blow into one of the holes should the air come out of the other one or not.

Just looking at a quick way off testing it. Also what are the holes for :question

Thanks

It's a pressure release cap mate, when the system becomes overpressurised it vents the excess! :y

I think one hole is for pressure relief - as the coolant warms and expands a spring loaded valve lets air (or coolant) out if the pressure gets above 1 bar/atmosphere.

The other one is a vacuum breaker, a lightly sprung one way valve lets air in when the system cools down.
