Yes I am afraid so, yest another victim of unscrupolous private warden firms in London. Earlier this evening at 5.p.m. I parked on double yellows outside the chinese shop in peckham south london. Went in the shop to get some chillis, guy in the shop said, or I thought he said you aint locked your car. Anyway went outside only to find the clamper putting the padlock on the clamp, less than three minutes in the shop. Calmper told me £120, I said I don't have that money on me or no cards, he said well your car will be removed within thirty minutes. I said you can't fxxxxx do that, take me 15 mins to go back home and 15 mins to get back here, and u aint puttin my car on the back of any fxxxxx tow truck. I am completely 'dangle berries'ed knew I had to pay the fine, the clamper said if we tow you it will be £250, yeah that'll be fxxxxx right. I said money is not a problem I have the money but not on me and to pay the fine I have to go home to get my bank card etc.. I persuaded the warden to drive me back to my house in his van to get my bank card, drove me back to the car. Then I checked the parking notices only find the charge had been blanked out/pasted over and there was no figure there. So subsequently argued with the operative over the phone taking the payment, anyway argued said I would put in an appeal. Luckily had the camera in the boot took loadsa pics, i think I have them by the balls. In any case the clamper totally adored the car as did the security guard, so I could'nt but help show them the engine, talk about the car, hear the sound system. The ironic thing is that on Monday I found £250 in notes, gave £120 to the misses, as it was her that wanted me to go to the shop I am also trying to claim the money back from the wife, and will drop my appeal off to the dodgy clamping company tomorrow. Will keep you posted on the outcome of that, should be good. >:(

Sorry to hear this...
But I think I am missing something - I didn't realise that private clamping companies do cars on double yellow - I thought they only did private parking spaces, and that the council wardens did the double yellow lines? Was the fine notice a council one or a private one then?
-
On anothe note, near my office in Kings Cross they have a new council camera on a pole, which I thought was for crime reduction, but then my next door neighbour got a fine in the post for leaving his car on the double yellow outside the office for 5 minutes....
-
Bit unlucky there Mick. :-/
I wouldn't have been giving them the guided tour either.

the twist in the tale is that i have all the permits for the borough, can park on all bays in southwark , any estate, pay and display (without paying) and on double yellows that are under council control, but not private, what a bummer I did show him the pass, did'nt work. To make matters worse I got another fine this week for driving in a bus lane last riday £50 quid, was in a hurry on the way to thai embassy before it shut. Well I am still up 80 quid at the minute in any case. But yeah could've done without it really.

That money has brought you nothing but bad luck. I think you should just send me the £80 and see if your luck changes any. ;D

We're both Scots, he knows the score. ;)

the only fast ones here are the irmschers, and your probably right, I should handed the money into to the cop shop, or gave it to you, then again that might no have guaranteed the fines; stroll on the irmscher brotherhood ;D

I had a minor victory the other week with Newcastle City Council over parking.
The 'quick' version of the story is...
Went on a work night out for a few drink in Jesmond area of Newcastle, which if you know the 'toon' you will know is basically a long street of bars and hotels, surrounded by a lot of residential streets. I'd parked off the main street, in a marked parking bay at around 8pm on a Friday, and went back to the car at about 11pm when we moved on to Newcastle city centre. Nothing was on the car when we got back. About eight weeks later I get a 'final' demand for £15, which I must admit, I ignored, seeing as a) it's a small amount, and b) it was also the first demand as far as I was concerned. They kept sending letters, yet ignoring my requests for information on what, where and when the ticket was all about. They finally told me what the ticket was for when they sent the "This is the last chance, in seven days we start court proceedings" letter. Now me and my fiancee are currently applying for a mortgage and she gets nervous about this kind of thing, so I relented and sent in a cheque for the £15, along with a note pointing out that payment was not me legally accepting the ticket, and I was going to appeal. The next day this was followed by a letter, requesting proof of my misdemeanour, such as would be admissable as a defence item in court. The basic pretense of this was that if they could not provide such proof, and I pointed out that a copy of the ticket wouldn't be acceptable as they had failed to take a duty of care in delivering it to me (they can't argue with that, I never bloody got one!) and therefore I couldnt be sure it hadn't just been written out there and then, I would classify their final letter as a demand for money with menaces (i.e. threatening me with a criminal record for non payment of fines). Funnily enough, no photographic proof exists, so I got a letter a week later with a cheque for my £15 back.
I know £15 is sod all in the grand scheme of things, but it's nice to get one over on them once in a while!

Parked in meter bay only had enough change for 20 mins, nipped in the pub, came out about 20 mins later Council warden at the car, said I had come out to pay, only one or two mins over. The warden said too late started the ticket. I said well if I drive off before you put the ticket on the car the tickets void. He said NO we will post it to you, I said you cant, he said my word against you, well lets see then, Got in the car and drove off. Got the ticket thru post, appealled, the warden lied in his statement, in my response to the appeals an independent dept. I siad the arden should be disciplined or dismisssed as he has clearly lied during the course of his duties. Anyway the adjudicator upheld the appeal in my favour. ;D

The ironic thing is that on Monday I found £250 in notes
Where the hell did you "find" £250 in notes, heh, am I missing something?
:S

Im slightly confused as well. As to where the car was parked?
If it was parked on private land.....to which that notice applies to.....then clamper is probably correct, altho i agree with you dispute it as the amount of charge has been painted out.
If it was on a public highway, you get 5 mins on double yellow lines and its not private clamping firms that put on the clamps
The only other thing i can think off is you did park on private land and the landowner had painted his own double yellow lines.

Yep, that sign suggests it was on private property. :o
-
Yes it was private land e.g., shopping centre land, service road access off of the highway. So i am going to proceed on the basis of the notice, which clearly shows no charge applicable, its a pity i did'nt have a diamond bladed stihl saw in the boot aswell as the camera ;D, And I was back up there this afternoon, but I parked in the morrison car park, so I dood park his car same pace, said to him about the £120 fine, he replied yeah I got one for 70 quid b4, I said you better no leave it there, he was just about to leave it and go about his business, just then the clamp van turned up, I told him better move it now as he'll clamp you, which he did obviously, thats my good samaritam deed done, reprieve for not handed in the 250 quid ;D

Well done for your good samaritan bit [smiley=thumbsup.gif]......tho doesnt really help you.....good luck on your fight about the sign....tho i suggest you contact the management of the shopping centre.
The clamping firm will probably just tell you to go away....as its their money....the shopping centre management might be more sympathetic when you point out the problem with the sign....and tell the clamping firm to refund you.

The £250 was there for you to pay all these fines - that is how I look at it
-
Sounds like your meega's costing you a few quid Mick, and for all the wrong reasons!! :o ;D

Your right, i won't tell you how much I have already spent this year; air con?, somebody drove into the back whilst parked up, then theres the other two parking offences this year, and congestion charge fine I forgot to pay :'(
-
By way of updte dropped off my appeal to the company offices (by hand), last niht emailed parking adjudication, got their reply today, they cannot help and advised to contact the individuals that own the land. the latter which i intend do do next, and also await a response to the appeal (up to 28 days)
I WILL NOT LET THIS ONE DROP >:(

Easy fix. You will require 1 old banger, not registered to you and one sledge hammer. Park old banger on their land. Wait for clamper van to turn up and then smash the van and the blokes up big time. Then smash them up some more.
Theiving, low down, no good, moronic, underhand, scumbucket, f***wits from hell taht need a good hiding to within an inch of their miserable little sad lives.
Either that or just forget about it and don't park there again.
-
;D Has to be maskede.g, a wee pool doon tammy wee eye holes, jist wait anyway without the car beein there, and bash the van up on their land, bash the clamper throw im in the back oh his van, drive off in the van and dump it next to their offices, in the quay. ;), the staisaction has got to be worth £120 ;D
-
We have had some tow aways around here - no money takers on a Sunday, people park there then get their car carried 20 miles away with an expensive release fee.
I wish someone had left a car with trembler switch operated explosive device
-
In the wrong business, think I might buy a van, and some clamps ;D or set up a new industry anti clamp devices limited ;D? jist to piss them off
-
I wish someone had left a car with trembler switch operated explosive device
Good Idea ;D ;D ;D
-
If you can make them I'll pay, hire a car and park it on the same double yellows, better still buy a banger no register it ;D ;D

Don't suppose any of you have came across red line routes, do they only have them in London? Have been caught out once on them, thought I was legal on a side street, but got a fine. :'(
I've been trying to pay my penalty charge for the bus lane incident, when i try over the phone the computer does'nt or can't find the PCN ticket so can't pay it, likewise cannot get onot to their website to pay either, what a bummer ;D well it will be by end of next week, as after that will go up to 100 buckaroos >:(

Red lines for Bus lanes in Edinburgh. On a double red its tow away as fast as they can.
