Guys,

Thanks for the very propmpt replies.
Now, forgive me, but my mechanical mind only stretches to starting the car, driving it and stopping it !

By " cubby hole in boot " do you mean where the first aid kit should be, behind the hinged flap or the part further into the boot that when you remove the flap, it comes away completely revealing the top of the suspension strut, I think !
Having found the right cubby hole, where can I find the solenoid and what does it look like please ?

What a numpty eh ?

Thank you

First aid. Look through and towards rear wheel - you will see the fuel filler, and the solenoid.  Solenoid mech is approx 4" long, and black from memory...

Great so far.

Now when I go out to the car tomorrow and trace the solenoid, how do I know if it's the problem apart from changing it ? Is there a way of testing it please.

Thanks

Undo the two screws.......slide it rearwards & unplug........grease up the locking pin.....re-connect plug & check if it then works..........if not, make sure you have power going to plug. Obviously if you`ve got 12v then motor is donald ducked

Rob G,

Do you mind if I PM you ?

I'm grateful for your advice, but if I continue to ask more questions, I run the risk of making myself look like a clown in public !!

Thank you

Ok, here goes.

The locking pin ? Now, when I inspecteced inside the flap, I saw a slim silver piece of metal jutting out from the left ...... I pushed it back in.

Was that the locking pin ? How can I tease it out to grease it ?
I don't have any way of testing whether there is power to the solenoid. You are dealing with a real send it to the garage man here, only in times of money shortage, I'm trying to do wee bits and pieces myself.

Thanks for your patience.

You could see the locking pin? Leave the fuel flap open & lock/unlock the doors. Does the pin move at all. What's the receiver bit on the flap look like? Is it damaged or still there, it's only plastic.  ;)

I'll check in morning, but the day I looked inside the flap, the long, slim piece of shiny silver metal was protruding at the right level from the left. I imagine that was the locking pin. I'll check if thetre is any bfoken plastic part on the flap itself. If it is broken plastic part, is that part available to buy ?

Thanks

If you're lucky there might be a car being broken on the forum in the same colour as your car.  ;) ;)

I see, if plastic broken ..............replace entire flap.

Car is Maroon / wine. Is it Rubens Red ?

Seen photo of a member's car on forum same colour as mine and it was described as Ruben's red.

Which section do I use please to ask for a flap ( if that is the problem ) or search fro a red car being broken up please ?

Lock removed....all you see in the boot is the 2 screws and part of the motor

Thank you.

Pics are a great help....... that WAS the locking pin, I saw and slid away the other day. I'll try the old flap open and lock and unlock the car routine.

Might be the receiver as kindly pointed out to me. I take it that is the plastic is broken, I'll have to replace the entire flap ?
None the right colour on e-bay so may go to the For Sale Forum to see if anyone is breaking.

Gents, thank you all for your prompt responses and advice.
I'll let the forum know how I get on.

Rob,

You were typing as I was. Armed with all the advice give, I'll look at the car tomorrow and hopefully solve it.

Thank you

Couldn't wait.

Went out into the night armed with my torch.

My hopes were dashed when I saw that the receiver is an integral part of the flap.

The pin was sticking out enough for me to give it a couple of gentle twists to and fro and hey presto, it's working again.

I'll lubricate it in the daylight.

Thanks folks.

Rob,

On the inside of the flap is what i can only describe as a metal lug with hole through it painted the same colour as the flap/car and at the right level with the pin. It is an integral part of the flap. I think that must be where the pin goes through to lock the flap. Everything on the flap and on the bodywork ( attached with 2 screws, housing the pin ) appeared intact. A couple of hopeful and gentle twists on the pin, seems to have solved it tonight. I'll lubricate the pin in the morning and fingers crossed I'll have complete a wee job with you guys helping me and not gone staright to a garage as I would have done 6 months ago.

Take care.
