I have seen plenty of posts saying the viscous fans are not needed. need to be removed , no use etc etc but what are the benefits of taking it off , mine is still in place , what am i getting if it comes off . Its a 2.5 td maybe i am missing something blindingly obvious! Thanks in advance.

You should post this in Omega General Help mate - you'll get more response there.
This section is for test posts only.

You lose that awful noise when it fails ;D
Seriously, it makes the electric fans kick in more, and the intercooler fan (which seizes if not used).

I junked my one on the Range Rover 300tdi It made a stack of difference to the performance and made it run hotter Kenlowe replacement fitted i must add.

Thanks.
maybe mods could move to general (should have been there anyway!!) I will have a go at getting it off, will i lose the whooshing noise on acceleration?

Yes, you will lose that noise :y
If you are getting that noise really bad, thats a sign the thing is knackered anyway.
Store the fan upright - you can always put it on again if necessary. Do not store flat.
