Title: overdrive ? and do i have it ?

3.0 v6 1996 elite, 123 and d on gear selector, have noticed when i think its in 4th i can tak em y foot off accelerator at 30mph and put it back on and it drops the revs by about 500, but if i put it in 3rd  it goes back up 1000 odd revs, is this overdrive like a 5th gear ?

Fourth gear is direct drive this might be used when the car is coasting in gear also watch the mpg on computer it will read 999.9mpg when this happens.
If you start speeding up whilst coasting in gear the reading will drop and you will feel the g/box slowing the car.
This will explain the revs altering.
The car also goes into direct drive at 50mph(ish) :y

You have 4 gears in the gearbox but there is also a physical lockup in 3rd & 4th, lockup in 4th is very much like 5th would be with 3 pedals.  :y

I should hope not, what a waist of a gear!  ;)

 Its probably lock up your noticing.  :)
