Title: Short Journeys
Post by: dippydave on 22 January 2008, 20:14:45
As i drive my omega mostly on really short journeys (less than ten miles) I was wondering:

should i be changing my oil more often than annually  :-/
will my (soon to be new) exhaust fall to pieces faster as it won't evaporate as much.  :-?
(still havnt bought one or ruled out stainless for this reason!!

how much faster will my brakes wear out as they don't get to sit idle for long! :-?
Am I wasting fuel  :-[ just for the comfort and delight in being in the omega?  Oh boy do I love the ccrt700!!!  :y
As i do less than 7000 miles a year, surely it's not worth investing in LPG?  :-/
Will I ever change the six cds that have been in there since summer  8-)

Should I just get another comfyish motor that's more fuel efficient and cheaper to maintain for short journeys...
(tried this with a '94 rover 214 that was fun for a month or two but can't compare comfort/audio/storage space!!)

Just my mind pondering as the car is coming up for MoT and service and exhaust and.....I can't use pay-at-pump because the card limit is too low :( !

anyone else in a similar situation?!!

If your happy with the mega then say what the heck. You have already stated it anyway. Comfy, good storage, good stereo, nice car what more do you want? Give it a blast up the motorway once a week it'll soon be worth while.

Only you can answer that question based on cost.

Except for the oil. If you're changing it every 7k and it doesn't get a regular long run I think you should do it twice a year. It only costs a tenner or so if you use GM semi on trade club and it will be better for the engine. Keep an eye on the breathers too, as they'll be more likely to block and cause hassle. :y

Regarding brakes they should last plenty of time at 7k a year. Exhaust is likely to rot quicker so a stainless probably makes more sense to you than to someone doing loads of motorway miles.
