hi, can anyone help me out please, my omega 2.6 has black oil coming out of the tail pipe and is milky at the oil filler cap area, the dipstick is clean and the expasion tank has no signs of contamination, also now and again the engine will stall and the engine management light and the spanner light comes on, it will not start at this stage, the code reader said no faults found then the orange lights went out and it started again, any help will be appreciated

Mayo at the oil filler cap isn't anything to worry about ....... they all do that Sir. ;) 2.6 suffered from a substandard valve stem oil seals which resulted in bluey/oily exhaust on a cold start up
so your oily exhaust could a result of oily exhaust fumes. I wonder if your EML could be due to oily lambda too :-/
-
"oil from the exhaust" ..... are you sure its oil ?? and not just black water from condensation mixing with soot ??? The size of the exhaust means a LOT of condensation if only used for short runs.. which will also cause the "mayo" in the oil filler cap area ....
I'm not 100% certain you actually have any problems at all !!

thanks for your replies guys, maybe i am worrying too much, i will have another check in the morning, do you have any guesses on the engine, cutting out? :y :y

Do the pedal trick... Probably the Crank Sensor :y
-
As your car has the 2.6 engine you can use the Pedal Trick to check for fault codes Paperclip Test & Pedal Trick (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1189022687).
Come back and let us know what (if any) codes are stored for more advice :y.

Intermittent cutting out and refusal to restart often points to the crank sensor on the v6 engines, doesn't always show a fault code however
Edit. Must type faster ;D

thank to everyone who gave advice yesterday :y :y, i took it out for a good 2hr run today and everything was fine :), then went out again about 5pm and within 10 mins the engine cut out and would not restart :-[, showing the eml light and car with spanner light, called out the aa and waited for 45mins for them to arrive, in that time spinning it over but not starting, once the kind man from the aa arrived i gave him the key and it started with no dash lights showing, i felt like a right one :-[ , drove home and so far has been ok :), could this be the crank sensor as a few of you suggested yesterday? :-/ :-/

Have you done as suggested above and done the Pedal Trick to read the codes?
-
learn how to do the "pedal trick" .. do it frequently for the moment while you work out what the problem is ... it will be most effective when the EML light is on as that indicates an "active" fault.
takes less than a minute to do .. :)

Crank sensor definately
-
hi guys, done the pedal trick today as suggested by some of you knowledgeable people and came up with code 0155, can anyone explain what this means and whether this would be related to the intermittent cutting out of the engine or would that still be the crank sensor as was suggested already, thanks, kevin
-
For future reference ... list of codes for the 2.6/3.2 can be found here ..
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1220619694
that and the pedal trick are your first check every time .. :)
0155 is an O2 sensor heater problem and will lead to high emmissions and poor fuel consumption .. but should not cause cutting out.
0335 is the cranksensor but does not always appear until the thing is totally FUBAR and the engine won't run at all !!
Sounds like a cranksensor to me .. but then again "I know nothing ...... " :)
-
thanks for your advice, today i have ordered a new crank sensor, gonna fit it over the weekend, just hope that cures the cutting out, as for the 0155 i am lost, what is an 02 sensor please, and where exactly can i find it, cheers, kevin
