Guy's Whilst driving home last night, the battery light on my 3.2 elite came on. Drove for another 10 miles no problems. Thought the battery or alternator was knackered. I went to start it this morning and it started fine, drove another 25miles with the light still on.
The battery is less than a year old, but surely if the alternator is on its way out the battery would be flat by now. Any ideas or common faults that anyone could think of? :y :y

Keep driving with a knackered alternator and you may destroy the battery as well. There is also a chance of frying other electronic systems in the car.

Have a read of these two guides

Do you think it just has to be the alternator?

Sound like your rectifer is on its last legs, change the alternator asap or you will be let down just when you dont want it to. :(

Did you read the guides?
Are you able to do the electrical tests yourself?
The warning light is driven by an output from the alternator so it is the prime suspect (and they do fail).
You do need to carry out the electrical tests though to find out what the true cause is.
