Title: This evenings events.
Post by: Big Fra on 22 January 2008, 02:05:51
Asm many of you may or may not be aware, at approximately 5 minutes past midnite 2nite, it was Freaking FREEZING! in Glasgow.

So cold in fact, 3 of my 4 doors were frozen shut. Fortunately I kept my de-icer in the rear footwell. A wee bit round the door edges, 2 min later and we could get in.

However.

When my passenger got into the car, he naturally shut the door only to have it bounce back open!  He just looked at me as if to say, "is that meant to happen"?

I investigated the latch only to find it had somehow clicked back into the locked position and would not move even with repeated use of a screwdriver.

After 15 minutes of this, repeated jibes from several of my work colleagues, the end of a 12 hour shift was starting to take its effect on my normally placid temper.

A hammer was produced from the boot and after another few smartar*e comments. A couple of gentle, well aimed taps with the chapping stick it popped open.

I closed the door, told my passenger to get in the back and went on my way.

I didn't touch it all the way home, popped the locking up and down a few times, tried the handle and now all is well.

Just thought I would share my story with you all.

I had the exact same thing happen to me this morning. Came out of my house, fresh faced at 7.30am, greeted by a frozen Omega. 2 doors frozen shut but opened eventually with a firmer heave.

Went to shut driver's door and it just bounced open again! Took about 10 minutes of de-icer and operating of the locks before it got going again.

Reckon it was all the rain (it was REALLY wet last night) freezing very suddenly - it didn't even have chance to all drain off the car.
