On my 3.2, while changing the cambelt - noticed the lower of the two bolts holding the aux belt tensionser to the 1-3-5 cylinger head, was very tough to get out.
Upon inspection, the bolt appeared to have a bit of thread still on the end of it.
I didn't have another bolt, so cleaned it up best as possible, removing this, and re-used it.
It was a tiny bit tough going in, but wasn't cross threaded, and sucesfully torqued to 40nm.
My gut feeling is it will be fine - especially as the top one is also fine and torqued up - any opinions? :y
(Other than, the garage who last changed the cambelt probably want avoiding :D)

Do you reckon the thread still attached came from the head, I assume it wasn't from the bolt or you would have said? If it went back in ok, even if a bit tight and you are happy that it wasn't cross threaded and you managed to get it torqued up correctly, I would be happy with that and leave it as sorted. Taking it back out again to replace or check the internal thread is only going to make any wear worse. :y

Sounds cross threaded to me. :-?
Probable that the crossthreaded bolt, on replacement, has found the cross threaded threads and reinserted itself.
The big questions are:-
Do you trust it, even though it torqued up OK?
Is it the thread in the bolt thats wrongly stripped?
Or the thread in the 'ole?
Stand by for next weeks exciting instalment... ;D :y
Joking apart, I would be removing, retapping and replacing, but thats just me... :-[

I think I would have put a drop of locktite on that just in case :y

Thing is Broocie, it went in straight as a die, didn't require any unusual force to do up, and torqued up fine, without any feedback that it was going to strip or break.
That said - I will of course get another bolt and re-investigate in the near future... I simply had to just get it working, for today :y
