Post by: JOHNBOY3385 on 09 March 2011, 20:40:36
HI GUYS IM NEW ON HERE. NEED A LITTLE HELP. HAVE A O2 2.2 16VALVE SALOON. ENGINE ELECTRONICS LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED AND THE DIAGNOSTICS SAY THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR AT FAULT. CLEANED THROTTLE BODY AND BREATHERS AS IT SHOWS IN YOUR LINK BUT PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE SO I REPLACED THROTTLE BODY WITH A SECOND HAND ONE{I KNOW BUT EXPENSIVE NEW}. AND HAD MANAGMENT RE SET. STILL THE LIGHT COMES ON AFTER ABOUT 3 MILES :-/. THE CAR DRIVES FINE MAYBE A LITTLE HEAVY ON FUEL APPRX 26MPG OTHERWISE OK. SHOULD I JUST EGNORE THIS OR COULD THERE BE SOMETHING IM MISSING OR MAYBE ANOTHER FAULTY TPS SENSOR ANY ADVISE WOULD BE APPRECIATED AS NOT SURE WHAT TO TRY NEXT. PLEASE HELP THNKS J

Excuse the silly question but..

Is the 2.2 a DBW (drive by wire) engine? Isn't the TPS part of the throttle pedal on DBW cars :-/

That's what I thought, and it 'talks' to the other half on the throttle butterfly.  :y

2 - one on pedal, one in throttle.

Without codes, we're pissing in the wind.

If the OP is near me, I'll happily stick a Tech2 on it

26mpg is pretty good going for a 2.2 on an extended run, with 20-22mpg more plausible around town, so she seems to be doing well in that respect?  ;)
When you cleaned out the the throttle body, did you remember to check the small dia. orifice in the front of the body & it's connecting tube was clear? :-/

Welcome to OOF mate  :y

Typing in uppercase is considered to be shouting and therefore rude - hence the comment about caps lock  ;)

yeah i cleaned that out it was blocked. the pipes have all been replaced so no blocks anywhere. intresting to read maybe a throttle position sensor on the pedal i was under the impression that was the pedal position sensor? or is it classed as the same as it comunicates with the throttle position sensor on the throttle body :o wish i had taken note of fault code when i was at the garage i know this would help. think it said tps signal not present. there were more serious issues but those are now fixed thanks to this site. for anyone interested. flickering gear lights{auto} random gear selecting. answer new gear program selector switch. quoted £450 from vauxhall plus fitting. haynes said you need to drop the auto box to fit it. i got it for £4 from local scrapyard took half hour to fix and align and didnt need to drop box. anyway without incuring more diagnostic costs and with the local scrapyard having a 2.2 auto is it worth me trying the pedal or something else. thanks for all yr help. j

Ps sorry about the caps lock thing. new to forums and computers and not too clever. just a thought could crank or maf sensors give false readings. j

Changing parts on a hunch will complicate matters, and generally isn't recommended...

Maybe a member nearby has adequate code reading abilities, and can post up results?
