Either the float has stuck down, or the sender is FUBAR.

To check float, stick a finger in the header tank (H&S Warning .. NOT when HOT) and give it a wiggle see if it "rises" and "falls"

If the float is good, unplug the wire under the header tank and short it with a paperclip. If the warning goes the sender is FUBAR.

New header tank from VX about £35, or a second hand one.. :)

Yes, you've a duff sensor. Cleaning out the bottle might put off the inevitable for a while,  but a new bottle is the only way.  ;) about £35 . :y

A sticky float is a sign of poor coolant servicing...
