Title: no spark on number 1 spark plug
Post by: harveycr on 09 March 2011, 21:42:51
After changing the near side head gasket my omega V6 was running lumpy. I have traced the fault to no spark at number1 plug. I have changed the DIS but the fault remains. Could someone point me in the right direction.Thanx

Try swapping the plug lead for one known to work. As far as I am aware the only culprits for no spark are the coil pack, HT leads and plugs.  :y

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If you don't have a spark on number 1 its more than likely to be a plug or the lead, if it was the dis pack there would be no spark on two cylinder because they a linked ;)

Hello just going back to the no spark on number 1 cylinder i have just been back to it and i have ruled out the lead and spark plug. All the other 5 have a spark output i have tried a second DIS unit and the result is still the same. Anybody have any other ideas.

It's a wasted spark system, ie 2 plugs share the same coil (coil pack consists of 3 coils all in one lump of plastic) so it has to be a plug or lead or you don't have 5 sparks.

No 1 shares a coil with with No 4 so you'd have lost No 4 spark too if it was the coil. Try swapping leads around ..... i know you're limited due to varying lengths.

Ignition Spark     Wasted Spark
     1                                   4
     2                                   5
     3                                   6
     4                                   1
     5                                   2
     6                                   3

so it's has to be the HT lead or the spark plug.  :y

Could the power lead that the dis gets its power from be damaged?

Iam confused as well. I don't understand why I have got a spark on 4 and not from 1. I will try the other dis pack again. Surely if there is power going to one side of the shared coil then that rules out the plug. I have proven the lead and the spark plug. Thanx for your help guys. Priceless.

Have you tried plugging number 1 lead  into a spare spark plug and laying it on the head and seeing if a spark is present when the engine is run, just wondering if your problem with number 1 cylinder is being caused by something other than the ht circuit

Is there fuel getting to that cylinder? Just a thought..

Damaged valve, piston ring?

Sorry, just read it again, no spark  :-[
