Hi all,
My new Mig has just passed the MOT-Hooray! so I am now going to spend a few bob and sort out a few issues and one essential.
Cambelt history is unknown, so i'm ordering the DVD and will be doing this ASAP. Can anyone lend me a cam locking tool?
Next up is the continuing low temperature running. I've done the warm up test and I'm fairly sure the engine thermostat is stuck open. I've considered leaving it, as it's no trouble really, but it can't be good for the engine, economy or longevity, to not get up to proper running temperature. I know it's supposed to be a right PITA but I think i'm going to do it. What do others here think?
Finally, while it's all apart, would people here do the water pump as well.
Thanks for looking!
Graham.

Water pump - yes, replace, unless you know it was done recently.
Stat - yes, replace, one bolt is a bit of a challenge ;D. See our Maintenence Guide.

I would recommend fitting a new water transfer tube when you fit a new stat. (about £12 IIRC)
Both the Omegas I have had suffered severe pitting where the top hose slips on to the transfer tube. If you have a spare you don't need to worry about damaging the old one getting it out.
If you fit a new water pump then buy yourself 6 litres of genuine coolant and do a complete coolant flush at the same time.

You doing more than 50:50 mix then ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

OK..
then buy yourself 5.5 litres of genuine coolant and do a complete coolant flush at the same time.
IIRC the system holds 11 litres.......

Not according to Mr Haynes ;)
9.7 litres for a 3 pedal V6 & 9.5 for an auto. :y :y

Thanks for the advice so far,
Has anyone got a Cam locking tool available that I can borrow? How does this work, I will be happy to leave a deposit/pay postage. I'm in shropshire.

Graham.
