This morning I got the spanner light on. Stopped and read the codes: 1700. Funnily enough, the previous 0300,0301 and 0115 did not come out?! Any idea where they've gone?
So, the 1700 is for transmission control module. Could this be due to the lever position switch? A few days ago all the selector lights went on and off, autobox worked ok though. But this morning it was on 3rd all the time, however it shifted down manually.

That code means the TCM asked the engine not to use full power, due to a detected problem by the TCM.
The selector switch is a candidate, given what you said about the lights :y

If it goes on a code reader, selector switch fault is called a Range Switch

thanks. The light went out temporarily yesterdy, came on this mornig again. code 1700 stored still. Will have to clean the selector switch... One question: is it accessed from the cockpit or under the car?
-
underneath.
theres a guide for removal and repair in the guides.

Followed the guide, cleaned it and put back on: no luck. Ok, opened it again, re-cleaned the clean switch, all the contacts were ok, one was slightly corroded, scraped it clean (at least tried to) without any luck.
Are these expensive as new? Any use of getting a second hand one? Bearing in mind mine is MY2002 and it is gone already...
