Title: Best diet
Post by: miggy on 22 January 2008, 22:02:55
Any of you chaps done any dieting..I have tried the atkins in the past.made me ill.

I have also tried a lipo diet..that was got from the pharmacy, i registered on a 2 week trial with them..that was only drinking what tasted like milk shakes..i lost lots of weight on that but found i suffered lots of bad headaches.

Anyone recommend anything...Problem with me as i play Rugby, so i need to keep up the strength, i have asked our fitness trainer as he calls himself but nothing really came of it.

::)Same old answer really. "Fad" diets are a rip off. Excercise, ie cycling, walking, lay off the p**s lay off the carbs, although if you play rugger as my Dad did you need them for strength. At the end of the day burn off more than you put in, not easy if you enjoy your grub.
A balanced diet + even gentle exercise is the way to go, you can still indulge yourself here & there. :y

ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10 ½ stone fluctuates up and down by ½ depending on how well I am. My dietician at the  hospital tells me to eat crisps and the like. :) :) :)
The office I work from is full of women, most of who are on a diet almost all the time. Until someone  brings some goodies in, that is, cake and chocolate today!  Always seem to justify the odd discretion. There is even a set of scales that they use to compare. :D :D :D

Anyway low fat, low sugar

Lay off the fats and sugar, control your portions and do what I don't - exercise.

Ive got to lose weight before I can start exercising.

A common misconception .. exercise does not have to be 40 minutes in a gym etc etc ... I have helped folks at work lose weight and start to get fitter by very simple things...

eg

park in the car park next door, or at the far end of the street and walk the rest, as you get fitter, park further away.

Use the stairs and not the lift, as most of us work on the third floor, only use the ground floor toilets or refreshment area.

A good one is, in conjuction with the parking further away, leave your lunch in the car so you have to walk to get it, then return the container to the car before afternoon work.

Simply put ... try to do an extra 60 minutes walking TOTAL in the day .. thats only 12 five minute walks ... soon adds up  :)

At last a sensible exercise programme to burn off the calories after that third helping of chips...

If you're over 25 you might want to take it easy at first, then do it faster as you become more proficient. It may be too strenuous for some.

Always consult your doctor before starting any exercise programme.

Eat a balance of protein and carbs every 3 hours without fail but not after 9pm.
A 20 min stroll a day minimum.
And 1 day per week you can eat what you like.
This is a balanced motabalisum diet.
Your weight will fall quite quickly after 2 weeks.

Well done with the ciggy, Miggy!
If you are serious about losing a bit of weight, have a look at the various books on the 'Hay' diet. Nothing to do with horses etc., but a Dr. Hay expounded a theory about 'compatible' eating, which involved not eating carbs. and protein (it's called food combining) at the same meal because the body couldn't assimilate the two together.
I'm not a particular devotee of it, but my wife and I stuck to it for 12 months and found that the meals created were very interesting and palatable, and we both felt strangely invigorated and definitely more active. We did lose weight without really suffering, but I put that down to controlled portions and less fat, sugar etc. rather than anything else.
It does involve a lot of meal planning and careful buying, and at the end of the day weight loss still relies upon burning more calories than you consume.
The emphasis of this eating method is on feeling healthier and it certainly did that for us. I'm sure your rugby wouldn't suffer.

Ive got to lose weight before I can start exercising.

slow exercise like walking will not do any harm

My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was 60. Now she's 97 years old and we don't know where the hell she is.

Best diet I ever tried was; nice fry up in the morning, flask of tea, some sannies, first aid kit, compass, map, and do 6/8 hours on the mountain, back down for dinner then down the pub for a few beers :y

I had a triple heart bypass when I was 26...nearly 8 years ago to the day (9th Feb). Look after it...you'll only get one (unless you have a transplant obviously).  :o
