Title: Tinkling sound
Post by: Squatch on 21 March 2011, 10:15:30
Hello all, I'm hearing a strange sound from the motor..almost like someone tapping a mug with a spoon. It doesn't follow engine revs and is intermittent, almost like morse code..I'm thinking it could be ignition related - failing coil pack perhaps?

most likey a sticking tappet, try quick few oil changers. Or some lifter treatment.

Try the heatshields around the down pipes ;)

I think theres a pretty good chance that your rattling will be the cat headshields. You need to get hold of a few large stainless jubilee clips to hold them in place. The headshields usually give way due to corrosion around the fixing bolts.

Aye it'a strange one - just the lightest 'tinkling ' sound - almost like a missfire

i once had an annoying tinkling sound whilst the car was mobile. in my case a piggy tail from a spring jumping about that was the culprit.

Don't know why but I've a notion this is coil pack related. The sound could be currant 'arcing' in some way...I've got spare packs so I'll swap them out and see...plus I've had a code for a high rev missfire a couple of times..
