Car tax due end of the month.
I go away to the lakes for a week on Saturday, so tax runs out while I'm away.
Went to get the MOT and Insurance out to go and buy it today...
No problem all in the folder with every car document I own....Ohh 'dangle berries' no its not, everything buy the mot :(
If its not in that folder, it could be anywhere :(
So what do I do...
I can search high and low tonight in the hope of finding it
I have printed off the proof of MOT from the motinfo website, I will try and blag the post office with this.
Or if all else fails, I will have to buy my tax online where you dont need your docs, and my only crime will be 'not displaying a valid tax disk', until I get home where it 'should' be waiting for me.
Why is nothing ever simple :(
>:(

Do it online JimBob. You should get a receipt to prove that you've paid it. I can't believe you'd get stuck on for that unless you come across a really unpleasant charater. :-/
-
I think thats what I will have to do, will also put the recipt my current tax disk on dashboard in case of over zealous traffic wardens
-
i did it online for tax, you need your log book cause you have to put that number in....
Can't remember if you needed the MOT number too :-/

::) Not the old "tax in post" excuse!! ;D ;D ;D

I always do it online. Cut out the Post Office jobsworths alltogether. FWIR, you just need the reg. no. and / or the reference number from the renewal notice and it figures out you're all legal and job done.
Why a Post Office can't check this online I don't know. They do come fairly quick in the post, though.

Well bugger me, Success!
Went into PO, puppy dog eyes to girl on the counter, 'help' 'I want to buy my car tax, I cant find my mot, going on holiday tomorrow, but I have brought this printout from the motinfo website'
'No worries' she says, 'The computer tells us if you don't have an MOT'
I nearly fell over!
Possibly also explains how I previously managed to buy Mrs Jimbobs tax with a 2 year old MOT cert (by mistake)

Computer in a Post Office? Blimey! must be the 21st century.
Just before they all close they start to become useful...
Well, glad to hear you're sorted :y

This was the main City postoffice, had it been my small local one, I am sure it would have been a different story. :y

Dunno actually. I went to the combined Post Office / Hardware store in the next village to buy a couple of sacks of coal, on a Sunday over Christmas. Forgot he didn't take credit cards and didn't have any cash. ::)
"No problem" he said "I'll just open the Post Office for you and you can make a withdrawal"
(He had to FIND the Post Office first - this place is like Arkwrights ;D)
Booted up the card terminal, let me withdraw some cash. Job done.
It's the big town PO's that seem to be staffed by miserable jobsworths.

I wonder if this means they'll finally allow you to tax a car without the insurance certificate. That would solve the farcical situation where it's impossible to buy tax for a car you've just bought, even though it has MOT and insurance, as it takes a few days for the insurance certificate to come through the post.
I'm not banking on it happening any time soon though.

Slightly more forethought and i would have asked, the fact I could easily buy my tax kind of threw me!

I love going to my local post office, the woman behind the counter has the biggest pair of t....................... and theres always a low cut top to exhibit the golden orbs of joy ;)

dont need mot number if you have the reminder and logbook cos they check status anyway, if you can, park off road while on holiday, cos you will have purchased tax and if your car is out of site i.e. locked in a garage, no one will see that the disc isnt on display

Don't think smaller post offices can check the status
Off to the lakes, so will be taking the car ;)

all post offices are linked to DVLA/VOSA and the national insurance database, they know who your insured with and what your "inside leg" mesurement is!! if you need to check if someone is insured and you have a reg number go to www.askmid.com :y

Very nice ;)

Lot easier doing it online :y, save all the hassle going to the post office, unless you use the same Post Office as Pete and like to Perv once a year ;D ;D

Once a year, I go in and hand over the OOF stickers to be posted about once a day ;D
