Hi all,
a friend of mine has been in my Omega & decided he wants one.
Cut a long story short. He's been offered a 1 owner from new ( elderly chap) 2.0 R -plate Miggy with full year MOT & only done 80K. Seems everything that was ever needed was done by VX & the car is in outstanding condition for the year. (So he says - I've not seen it yet) All mot's and lots of service history apparantly :o :o
Owner is asking £800 :o :o :o :o :o :o
gonna have a look with him late tomorrow afternoon, not knowing too much about the 4 pot models :-[ :-[, any pointers to what pitfalls I should look for.
How much approx for a garage to fit cambelt & w pump to one of these if needed?
Your Opinions greatly received
& sorry for the long post ::) ::)
Thanks Big Al :y :y :y

Garage is gonna want around the £300 quid mark. As for the asking price :o you can knock 50% off that.

Yes i know 800 quid seems way to high for this car.
but he'll get £220 scrap for his exisiting pile of junk. ;D ;D
This car is from somewhere within his family, so i know i ain't gonna get it for him for 400 :'( :'( :'(
just wanna know if theres anything obvious to look for on the 4 pot lump :y :y :y
Thanks, Al

well if it's somewhere in the family shouldn't it be below market price!! let the owner advertise it for a while and see how far he gets as for things to look out for i can't really help mines also been well looked after but i would say driving straight is always a biggie with migs, uneven tyre wear e.t.c but full history maybe a good one! and worth the xtra dosh! by that milegae he should see a good few years use although when i was a youngin i bought a one owner mini and i was a little erratic with the go fast pedal!(if you can say that in a mini thou!) and the suspension rubbers let go fairly rapidly! while my driving wasn't really the best for the car i believe to this day that the car had never had any stress and the first bit it got it didn't like? but still 800 quid is steep

Valid point.
Only experience of a 2 litre was a 16v one. Only drove it from the Midlands to Sussex. Should be reasonably free revving. Would have thought that most of the v6 things apply:- oil leaks, breathers, wish bones, coolant changes. Tyre wear and coolant colour seem to be the two biggest indicators of a well cared for Omega.
good luck :y

Thanks for the replies, I will see how we get on this afternoon. have printed off a couple of pages of autotrader ads up to £600 to show the seller what you can get.
The problem I have here is I am dealing with someone from my mates family. But know what to look for & will try & find a few minor faults as a bargaining point. ;D ;D ;D
I'll post on here tonight how we get on. But Vamps has a good point, what can you get today for £800 :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/
Thanks,, AL :y

Went & viewed it -- Not bad but not a "Minter" by any means. about 7/10 for general condition. no engine leaks I could see, but oil all over the back exhaust box & fuel tank. probably diff seal or gearbox leak spraying backwards.
BLUE coolant not pink ( bad sign in my book) Cambelt due so gave it big miss. Most of servicing by local garage not VX as we were told. front tyres wearing on inside :'( :'( :'(
Seller got a bit stroppy when I told him I thought it should be about £450 max..
he told me I obviously know nothing about how much these cars are worth >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
Then we showed him the autotrader ad's ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
My mate is fine about it though . . told him I will hopefully find him a good un in coming weeks. Got to be patient though :) :) :)

I really wouldn't buy a 2.0, it wouldn't pull a greased stick from a pooches bum, its probably less economical than a 2.5 and its worth pennies. The way things are going with fuel costs £800 will get you a decent facelift 2.5/3.0 ;)

Having run one for two years, I agree similar to v6.
I had the cambet and water pump done at 58k, plus cambelt tensioner. I am told by my local MIG friendly garage that rocker box gaskets are prone too especially at the back (bulk head side) he was right!
HBV (Heater Bypas Valve) can go later in life mine's at 72k and needs doing. Other than that its a good lump, I get 27.5mpg and cruises at speed (can't say incase how much ;))all day long. £600 Notes would be good if the body is solid? not uch that you can get that i a comfortable and solid as a MIG for the dosh!

Pete, thanks for the info - but . . . it's a mate who wants a miggy after a spin in mine, but he is getting on a bit ::) ::) :: he's thinking of a 2.0 or 2.2 plodder
getting him a 3.2 might just be a bit too quick for him ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Looks a nice one though :y :y :y
