Title: Brake rumble
Post by: miggy on 10 February 2011, 10:41:05
Hi all, long time no speak, i have a strange rumble on the car everytime i brake, i changed the bearings/pads and discs a couple of months ago and had no issues up till now so i dont think its related to these parts. When i brake it seems to be an intermittent rumble when i release the brake it goes, the braking is fine and no problem. if braking from speed the rumble is more intense but as said no braking issues.
Could it be related to the ABS sensor and would it be worth cleaning it or from you experience could it be related to something else. :-?

Wheels off and check all around unfortunately... Could be as simple as something stuck in the brakes but more likely a pad worn IMO

All pads/disc/bearings new, nothing stuck in the brakes etc, its baffling me, some have mentioned faulty sensor, i must say when i brake it does feel like when i have braked hard at speed, ie the ABS working. :-/

When i say a rumble, the only way i can describe it is, it is not there all the time when i apply the brake, if i press the brake its like a pulsating rumble, just sounds like the ABS when braking hard

In that case it could be... Check the pickup ring (Diff end of driveshafts IIRCC) and look for missing teeth/excessive corrosion and the same at the front.

This Is weird, checked everything related to the brakes, cleaned everything, still making the same noise, could it be the front bushes as the rumble is from the front. :-/ :-/ only when applying the brakes though

Help, this is driving me insane now, i have checked everything out, cleaned all sensors, all pads are fine, no sticking caliper etc etc.
When i brake there is a only what i can describe as a thumping, it sounds as though there is a flat spot on a tyre (Tyres changed around and still there), as i brake it goes thump thump thump on every revolution of the rear wheel/wheels, (Thought it was the front but deffo the rear) as soon as i release the brake it stops, apply it again and it starts. I still have excellent braking but this problem is driving me mad as to what it is.
Could any of you guys help or have you had any simular issues.  :-/ :'( :-/

Have you check the mating surface between wheel and disc, and between the hub and disc is perfectly flat and brushed off, could be some rust or loose bits trapped in between the surfaces causing uneven brake wobble.

Wire brush em.
just something else to check
