Hi guys, just a quickie, I have been into VX today to pick the gaskets up to service my AF25 gearbox....However, I was hoping to pick up some auto trans fluid as well. They are trying to give me Dextron VI I am led to believe it needs to be Dexron IIIG....I have rung round a few factors and they have never heard of Dextron IIIG, they are saying to use the Carlube Dexron III Q3...Does anyone have any experience of this and can anyone advise if the car lube stuff would be up to the job.....Is it just me or is there a complete lack of knowledge in general at most dealers and factors on the auto gearbox subject/parts!!

Dexron 6 is the new Dexron 3 so you'll be fine with it, assume we are talking about a VX dealership ;)

Yeah Dave, VX in Wigan...I have seen a few 'horror' stories on here of Dexron VI going into the AF25 gearbox and knackering them up as its thinner and not suitable for this application?? Is this not the case? I can't get back to Wigan today but I can lay my hands on the Comma Dexron III or Carlube Dexron III any thoughts?

Thought I'd post the link where I got the above info from.....I was doing a quick google search to work out what fluid to use....

Have any members replaced their fluid recently. If so, what fluid did you use, I'm a little put off from using this dexron 6 due to the thread on the above link...Any suggestions would be greatly welcome as I am going to tackle this tomorrow!!

Think the last dex 3 I bought (a few months ago) came from GL on Lever Street.

I use Fuch Titan 4000, available from Opie Oils (see sticky in Parts For Sale section).

I put Mobil ATF 320 in the previous car last summer and it at least worked :y

Comma Dexron III is currently £15 for five litres at Halfords.

Thanks guys for the replies, I'm going to go with the Theboy's recommendation and stick some Fuch's Titan 4000 in.....
I have seen you can clean the filter out as opposed to replacing it, any tips on what to clean it out with (petrol/paraffin) etc....Is there anything to be wary off in cleaning the filter out?

Ensure the cork bit around one of the holes is in place on replacement - it has a habit of coming dettached from the filter

Cheers pal....In hindsight I'm going to order a new filter and have done with it, for the sake of £15 or so....VX quoted me £79 exc vat which is why I was going to clean it out but for £15 may as well just replace.
