Title: Omega CD 2.6 2001...Engine noise!
Post by: Dioptre+150 on 22 April 2011, 09:45:21
Hi! Going to view above car this w/end,but it has a fault!   Slight tapping noise on start-up,fades after a few seconds, smokes a little if stood for a few days,no smoke when driven!   I suspect tappet-related problem!   Any ideas of potential cost or damage if un-treated?   Thanks.

Early 2.6's suffered with poor stem seals around the valves, fixed later on. Its likely to burn a little oil.

Noisey tappets on cold start up is fairly common, if it clears when warm, its nothing really to worry about, just keep on top of oil changes  :y

or, if more of a ticking sound, could be exhaust manifold gaskets. that take up when warm. ;)
