Title: Changing rear brake pads.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 22 April 2011, 17:53:57
I've just noticed that the rear pads on my 2.6 are almost down to the discs.

Mine is an auto. Should I have the car in P when I change the pads or in N. Does the handbrake work on the rear pads?

I've jacked the car up but the wheel does not spin freely.  :y

Not overly familiar with Omega but would think that its a similar setup to other rear disc cars I have done.

The handbrake probably works on a set of shoes that actually press against the inside edge of the disc, you will see them if you take the disc off.  I work in neutral for front so would assume the same for rear, and chok the front wheels.

Handbrake uses little shoes in a drum.  Pads are only used for road brakes.

I always jack the whole front or rear of the car up when doing pads or anything else which involves removing the road wheels.

Just chock both front and rear of the front wheels..... obviously do the job on very level ground.

Although Mark's thread is about servicing the hand brake and disc, pictures three and four show what's involved in getting the pads out.

I intend to give Mark a proper pin punch instead of a 6" nail!  ;)  ;)  :y  :y  :y
