Title: 3.2 Aux Belt
Post by: squattingbeaver on 22 April 2011, 13:12:03
Hi Everyone

I had the aux belt shread itself a couple of days ago and it snapped the tensioner wheel, so today I thought I would tackle the job, replaced the tensioner pulley and went to put the belt on.

the belt I have is a 2020mm 6 grove but it seems to be too short, I just cannot get it over the last wheel with the tensioner fully released. It is almost like I need a belt a little longer, I spoke to my local parts guy and they do have a 2030mm but I just wanted to see if anyone has any thoughts and tips on this.

I am assuming I have routed it correct as I have used the picture off the forum link below.

Any help or comments would be appreciated.

There are two V6 aux belts, for Air-con & non-airon  :y

Thanks for the reply, the 2020mm is listed as the one with Aircon but still wont fit, how easy should it be to put the belt on once the tensioner is full relased off? this one wont go even with trying to leaver it.

Did you route it like this?

Yes but when routed and the tensioner fully off the belt would go about 3/4 across the water pump and no amount of leavering would get it on, I checked all the other pulleys and the belt was on correct.

That should be ok, seem to re-call if its on that much, once turned over/started it should sort itself out  :-/

Make that about half way over then, it wont stay on itself. its at the point it will not go over..I am going to give it half an hour and then try again.

Can you get someone to hold the tensioner in the right place, leaving you both hands free to try to get it on properly? :-/

My car is a 99 3.0 but I've just had a look at mine & thats a 2020 too. Although it was a snug fit, it still fitted. You sure you've got it fully fitted into the crank & A/C pullies  :-/

Is the belt from VX? Autovaux ones have been known to be too short in the past.

did the belt shred itself because it was old,or has there been anothere problem, mine shredded the belt and i found the crank pulley had started to split, the bit that the belt runs on was moving out towards the raditor throwing the belt out of line, worth checking.
