Title: alarm problems and a couple of questions

Hi
i recently gained an elite 2.5 and have a couple of niggles.  not sure if i should list them together or try separate posts but here goes.
firstly can anyone tll me whats going on with the alarm?  unlike some other vehicles there does not seem to be any way to lock the car without setting the alarm.  this is causing a problem as it keeps going off at random especially when parked at the side of the road (could be wind/vibration caused by passing vehicles)  i was advised to press the interior disable button before locking and this sort of works but it still went off at 12-30 wednesday night, 2-00 am thursday night and 3-00 am last night.  at the moment all i can think of is to leave it unlocked to keep peace with the neighbours.  any ideas please?

also, can you remove the door from the glovebox or do you have to replace the whole thing?  previous owner had to break into it so the mechanism is broken and the door hangs down.  would like to replace the door or the catch if possible.

Braking - there seems to be a bit of a vibration/wobble on braking. 

electric drivers seat - all works in all directions but it will not go fully forward stopping quite a way short.

sorry to start with a list of questions but i would appreciate any advice

wheel wobble prob due to warped discs.
check the seat mech for coins stuck in the runners, a 5p fits nice in there.
alarm, maybe the bonnet switch.

Glovebox - can be dismantled after removal, but I dont know if the internal parts can be bought seperately. Normal course of action is to source a complete glovebox from someone who is breaking a car...........like me. ;) ;D

ref seat movement definetly check runners for coins took full elite seats from breakers other day found £13 inbetween runners  the drivers seat would only move so far once coins removed everything ok

The glovebox door mechanism consists of a couple of plastic pushrods (iirc) which are quite flimsy - like all Vauxhall plastic items - and are easily broken.
I  think you need to remove the glovebox to take the door off, so I honestly think you might as well change the glovebox while your there, rather than faf around trying to repair the old one.
I suppose it depends how much time you have on your hands and how much you enjoy fiddly jobs. :-/
I can vaguely remember a guide by Jimbob ( in the guides section) on how to dismantle/ repair etc. the glovebox.

Tony,

Know exactly what you mean re alarm.

I locked my car by having my keys in my POCKET !! closing driver's door, reaching in through open rear offside door, pressing down lock button on driver's door ( which locks all doors and boot ) and finally closing rear offside door.

Problem was/is the bonnet switch. I have since disarmed it by simply pulling it's electrical connector out. I can now lock car with fob, deadlock it and alarm is set apart from the bonnet switch. When you look under your bonnet, you'll see the hole on the underside that the rubber part of the bonnet switch goes into. These switches are pretty poor and the contact is not enough to keep the switch depressed, hence the activations. I intend to glue a piece of strong rubber over the hole thereby causing the switch to be well and truly depressed !!

thanks guys for all the great advice.  i am still trying to get to grips with the finer points of the forum and not sure how to reply to each individually so i assume this is going to be a general comment (i clicked on reply at the bottom of the page) so forgive me if its a complete cock up!
will try the bonnet catch for the alarm and thanks for the idea of manually locking with the back door open.
is the glove box black and how much do you want for it!
sounds as though trying to fix the seat could be lucrative - will give it a go
no i dont like fiddly jobs and when it comes to mechanics i am about as useful as a chocolate teapot!
