Title: Gone from bad to worse.bad knocking sound.
Post by: squattingbeaver on 24 April 2011, 14:22:42
Hi guys thanks for the advice on the aux belt, changed the belt for a continental brand and it fitted perfect. Started her up and it was all good. Left her ticking over for 15 mns and all was still well, switched off and went inside

Then went to move the car 30mins later and was
greeted with a loud knocking noise and spanner illuminated a very rough engine. Switched off quickly.

Does not sound right when turning over and will not
start and I do notwant to try again
Did the pedal trick and got a code of 1530 which according to the guide is a aircon voltage problem.
Don't think that could cause the knocking noise.
Any advice on the next steps would help. My worry is that it is the timing belt let go
in that short ti e it went from rough knocking
Tick over to not starting at all...

Pete

Cam belt"kit" service life is 40k or 4 years due to tensioner bearings. Has it gone over it's service life?

...and is the aux belt on correctly? Usually the aux belt is changed with the cam belt kit....?

Hi the belt was changed in may 2007 by vauxhall so is due, I assume you think it might be this too.
As for the aux belt it is on fine as the car was running well for 15 mins and sounded perfect. Still on fine now too

So is the next step to get it stripped down and see why hs gone wrong?
