Title: Broken thermostat housing
Post by: Gaffers on 01 May 2011, 13:24:32
While changing the thermostat I have broken the lug which the bast*** bolt goes through and holts it in place.

I am trying to source a replacement (mods please see my post in the Test Section) but in the meantime what are the chances of it holding while I await the spare?

Depends how stiff the coolant transfer pipe join to stat housing is? And weather the coolant hose is stiff enough hold in place...? Cant see it staying put with 14 15 psi of pressure and vibration going on.

Is there any lug left to bolt a diy bracket on to? Or a jubilee clip with a bracket made to clip into that?   ...maybe?

Not really, plus with a clip around it the housing wont be completely home and will probably leak.

I had though about a bit of fibreglass maybe  :-/

Sorry, are we talking coolant transfer pipe bracket, or stat housing itself?
