I have what feels like a ridiculous question to ask.
Does the Oil filter on a 2.2 faclift turn clockwise or anti-clockwise when removing.
I'm right in the middle of an oil change and I've just drained the old oil and put the sump plug back in.
Gone to remove the old filter with my filter pliers and MY GOD!!!!!......that barsteward does not want to come off >:( >:( >:(
I'm turning it anti-clockwise but it's only moving a few milimetres at a time.
My knuckles on my left hand are bleeding where I keep whacking them against the fan and the filter now has dents all around it where i've been sqeezing so hard with the pliers.
Geoff capes could not have tightened it this much which is why i've stopped to come on here to check that I am auctually turning it the right way.
I don't want to damage it.
i'm a 16 stone guy who is pretty damn strong and I just cannot get it off.

Anti-clockwise. I had to totally destroy mine

Cheers Rob......I got to the point where I felt like smashing my car up so I thought i'd come on here and double check.
Did you just use pliers to get yours off like what I'm using, shall I just persevere with them?

I got under the car, made a hole in bottom of filter body to drain as much of the oil out, then hammered a 16" long chisel right through the filter body and used that as leverage to undo it ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I have'nt got a chisel so i'm going to go back and continue with my microscopic little turns.
As long as it's moving i'm assuming that it will eventually come off ::) ::)
Like i said, it is so abnormally tight I started to wonder if I was turning it the wrong way.
I'm off right now for a ten minute walk back to the car park on the housing estate near where I live.
Well I did'nt want to spill any oil outside my own Gaff did I ;) ;) ;)

keep persevering with the pliers, but, if the filter body starts to collapse you may have to resort to similar actions as I took. Best of luck :y :y

Or stab a long sturdy screwdriver through it :y

All that time I was turning it the wrong way.
Unfortunatly as soon as I posted my last reply I went back to the car and took a screwdriver to it.
It's now completely destroyed and still won't come off
Theres only about the top inch of the filter left on with all razor sharp bits of metel hanging down which I've also sliced my forearm open on...(not joking)
I'm going to need to replace the auctual sump that it's sitting on, I don't know the name of it, it's got a few black rubber tubes attached to it and it's sort of a round shape.
Has anybody got one they want to sell?
If not do you know what it's called so I don't sound like a dick when i'm ringing round the scrappys.
I can't go back and try again to get it off because I'm going to literaly explode with rage and either hurt myself or someone else

I`ll accept part blame :-[. I thought you understood it was anticlockwise from below. Should have replied in a bit more detail for you. Sorry mate :(

Is the part I need to source just called "the filter housing" or has it got another name?
It looks pretty straightforward to get off........or is it? :-?

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! , despite what I said in my last post I decided to go and have one last go at getting the bugger off.
A hundred more swear word's and 50 more bang's to my hand and forearm later and the bloody thing is off.
I got a torx 45 socket and hammered it into one of the filter holes and then attached an extention bar which I used as a handle.
I also cut away some of the rubber seal with a stanley knife which helped a lot.
So my Oil change which started at about 11.00am yesterday finally got finished today at about 6.00pm ::) ::)
My car is now filled up with lovely new Mobil 2000 semi-symthetic.
I made sure I filled the new filter halfway up with the new oil and oiled the rubber trim before attaching as suggested by tunnie.
THIS IS WHAT MY OLD FILTER LOOKED LIKE ONCE FINALLY REMOVED

I would honestly rarther swallow my own tongue then go near another filter at the moment mate :D
I know that the whole episode was my own bloody fault and if I was to do it again it would be a simple and quick job..........but still...JESUS!!!!!!
