Title: Drop links OE or pattern?
Post by: Dishevelled Den on 06 May 2011, 10:18:27
I’m getting that soft but persistent rattle on undulating surfaces but no noise on smooth surfaces.

If I have to replace the links (either front or rear) is it better done with OE parts or will pattern ones - such as found on the Bay of Pigs - do the job?

There’s no problem with handling or tyre wear as far as I can tell.

The advice used to be a good make like FAI or Febi bilsten

these have become harder to find, dont know much on the current ebay crop quality but a few years back, some were pretty crap.

Think im on Febi from Vauxhallworldparts and they are spot on.

I'm not at all sure Mog as I haven't been under the car yet to look at my own or measure them.

I wonder if someone else has an answer before I take anything off.

This may be an overall measurement from the top body of the link to the bottom (that could vary between manufacturers) and not the measurement between the centres of the locating studs, which would be the more critical of the two, I would imagine.

I bought a pair recently from Jason at Allgermanparts.

They are Lemforders and cost with delivery around £36 from memory.Totally rock solid and when I was fitting them I just felt they were a quality bit of kit, heavy gauge rod and properly sealed rubber ends.

Come highly recommended from me anyway.

i fitted lemforders after the advice i got on here not expensive and easy to fit, loads of advice saying stay away from the bay with these so i spent i think probably an extra 20 but lemforders i believe are the original suppliers my car has 170 km on it and it's the first replacement so they must be o.k!

I replaced the originals that had done something like 150k miles and were only a bit tired with some relatively cheap droplinks (about £15 pair) and the replacements lasted about a year....
