.....and that's the destruction from a 12.5 Kiloton warhead. Russia's last test detonation was of a 57 Megaton weapon......

NB. Estimated strike scenario for UK mainland was 210 Megaton.

ive just looked at a few more pictures from the link you posted i got as far as picture 21 and stopped.
today Hiroshima and Nagasaki are talked about in such a matter of fact way (me in clueded) it belittles the pain and suffering the japanese population endured and  still are, how many years later ???

How many more people would have died if the bombs were not dropped, how many less would have died if they surrendered after the first bomb.

Actual dates are August 6 and 9, 1945..Not enough time to surrender for a whole nation..

dont know
there was a documentary on the history channel awhile ago. At the end they stated that while the bombs being dropped certainly saved military lives, were the bombs dropped on legitimate targets

to be honest i cant give an answer one way or the other
i dont think the programme did either

What is a ligitimate target ? If we remember what the mind set of the Japaneese people was at the time, they stood for total anihalation of there people.
They treated there lives like nothing, much like some religous fundamentalists do today. So are we any different today as all those years ago ?
The really frightening bit is, it woke the Japaneese people up and they have changed for the better, will something similar have to happen to religious fundamentalists in our lifetime.

Just my useless opinion

Mike

P.S. I just hope it never happens again.

I hope that the people with the ability to press the button look at these photos and think twice. It will be the end of the world if a nuclear war kicks off.
