I have an oil leak from this gasket and TIS states removing the oil level indicator when changing the lower oil sump pan gasket!!
is it necessary?
In the pics seems to be a rod (from indicator) going down the sump!!!
Thanks in advance.

Mine was glued on with grey sealant and that's what I used to glue it back on with. The oil level switch is bolted to the sump with a couple of M6 bolts. Careful of the wiring, it's likely to be brittle. ;)

but this indicator is not bolted to the upper sump?

no ;)
The plug/socket is (towards the back at the top), but the actual sensor/switch is bolted to the lower steel pan.

I'm a little confused because found this pic and can't see where to fix the switch!(http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss304/grijandermorgen/ENGINEOILSUMPPAN.jpg)

I'm not able to edit the picture, but it fastens to the only two bolts shown ..... just by the drain plug.

Thanks Andy, is just as you say :y, both bolts on the pic are for the sensor. I'll get then a new o-ring for the switch.

is that for where the plug/socket passes through the upper part of the ally sump? (it's been awhile since I removed mine ::)) I can't think now how it all fastens, but it's simple enough :y :y

The socket is pushed through the upper sump from below and held in place by a large circlip. I didn't change the o-ring on mine when I cleaned out the sump a couple of weeks ago but it seems to be oil tight so far..............
