Good morning chaps. Now the proud owner of a 2.5 TD Elite spec estate. Picked up from Bristol on Saturday then driven to Darford for a pick up of some gear, on to Newcastle area to do the drop offs and more pickups finally getting back to Scotland last night.
On the way up using cruise I managed a respectable 48mpg, tank brim to brim was 523 miles, then after the second fill up I tried some ,ahem, spirited, ahem, driving.
I noticed a drastic drop in fuel levels although the instantaneous figures didn't drop that much. Discovered this morning that the whole underneath of the car was soaked in diesel as well as the tail gate, made a right mess.
Had a look under the plastic cover with the engine running and found that the small return pipe from #6 injector was missing and fuel was just cascading down the lump!
I'm new to these engines! Can anyone tell/show me where that line T's into. I could spend ages under the bonnet looking but not have a clue.
Please help?
Thanks in advance.

This happened to mine aswel. On the back of the number 6 injector a blank cap is missing
What happens is the rubber blank cap gets perished and gets blown off.
Just get a new rubber blank cap .
This should stop your problem.

Cheers for that, was in touch with local dealer and guess what...NLS, but he is having a look on his shelves for me, waiting for a phone call.......
The other thing now is clutch slip due to raw diesel going down the block onto the bellhousing. Is this terminal for the clutch or will it eventually dry out and be OK?

Use any method to get a short pipe on that injector, and block 1 end of it ;)
A manual Elite estate, rare beast indeed :y

Right cheers for that, I'll have to wait and see how it goes.
Drive it like you own it and it's no problem, drive it like you stole it and it slips a bit.
I'll be trying brake cleaner then degreaser.

All sorted now thanks to local garage, they got me a repair kit so renewed all the hoses and made sure the blanking cap was on nice and firm, now I just have to deal with the contaminated clutch..... clean it or replace it?????
-
Ye I changed all the hoses on mine too at the time.
Try clean it first . I put a new clutch in mine at christmas and its not the cheapest ;)

Well, today I decided to give it some beans on a (private) back road round here, nice long straight an' all that. 1st, no problem, clean and crisp up to the red line, 2nd the same, third...slipped a bit on hard acceleration around the 2.5 to 3K mark, eased off a bit and then kept pressing, again all the way up to just before the red line ;D.
Did some mid range accelerating as well and all seems good. All this after squirting 1/2 a can of brake cleaner in there. As it's only going to be me driving enthusiastically I reckon I can do without a replacement just now. (phew) :y

That sounds good then.
Not too hard on the wallet after all ha ;)

Hello G!
Sorry mate, this one is staying over here, got fed up paying higher and higher prices for a hire car. SWMBO comes over once a month for grandchild visit anyway.
This one is going to be stored in a nice big secure unit when not in use and the owner of the unit is an enthusiast, he has a Healy 3000 and a sprite as well as loads of bits and a couple of chassis for a spridget!
I'm also going to have something done to her once a month in the way of a tidy up....small rust spots to be eradicated!
Mind you, bit of a >:( moment today..... used a pressure washer to get rid of some of the drive up crud, no problem rear and flanks but as soon as it touched the bonnet, large flakes of clear coat came flying off and in one place the top layer of paint as well!!!!! :'(
Looks like a very poor or very recent spray over. I'll have to get in touch with previous owner and ask him when it was done. I had figured to have a couple of blemishes sorted but this looks like a whole bonnet job.
Yep pics will follow when I can get them uploaded, hopefully tomorrow. Been a bit busy sorting the young lads car(s) to get them running again.
We're flying back home tomorrow evening, then the fun begins, strip the Carlton in prep for the body shop (how many times have I said that!!!!). Hopefully fly back to work on the 30th for a rest ;D
