Afternoon, I have a problem with the central locking on a 2000 plate MV6 estate. When I try to lock the car using the keyfob, the doors all lock and then immediatly unlock again. The only way to lock the car is to use the key in the drivers door lock and whilst it is quite adequate, its annoying at the same time. Can anyone give some pointers as to what the fault may be and possibly how to fix it without having to resort to main dealers. Any advice will be more than welcome.

It could be a sticking microswitch in the keyfob, or the battery could be on its last legs? Open up the keyfob, after pulling off the key horseshoe (be careful not to lose the tiny transponder chip in the horseshoe!) & have a look at the state of the switches.

It's not the key fob. Your problem will be the driver's door lock mechanism that's stuck/sticking and not quite moving far enough to operate the microswitches in the door locking motor. The first easy/cheap thing to try is to remove the door card & lubricate all the lock mechanism & rods/linkages etc. If that fails you might then need A N Other driver's door locking motor. I'm sure that one of the many breakers here would be able to sort you out with one if need be. :y :y

OK, I've taken the door card off and dismantled the various rods and motor assemblies. Checked the micro switches and they all function. Everything looks ok and so it has all been re assembled and lubricated to death. Still got the same result though. Lock the doors with the keyfob and the doors lock and then unlock. So i'm still locking the car using the key in the drivers door. I have made another discovery however, the ignition key doesn't work the tailgate lock or the glove compartment... getting the feeling I've been had!

it will be your locking motor/ soleniod, fairly common and syptoms are as you describe locking and unlocking, ask the breakers on here or get yourself to a scrapyard :y

I have made another discovery however, the ignition key doesn't work the tailgate lock or the glove compartment... getting the feeling I've been had!
Try lubricating the locks. The key rarely get used in these locks, so they get gummed up. :y

are you getting any signs of a weak battery, I would say check that with a amp meter (if you have one) before you go stripping doors. 99% sure your battery is weak or weaker thats why your getting them symptoms. :y :y

Checked both keyfob batteries, got 3V + on both. Time to have the door cards off again me thinks.

Agreed I have had the same problem of the locks playing up when the car battery has been low on charge

If you dismantle the lock motor, you will find two microswitches inside. One of them will have high resistance normally closed contacts.
Maplin or similar stock suitable replacements.
