Title: Will Vx oil be ok in Rangey??
Post by: Darth Loo-knee on 30 January 2008, 19:24:01
Since I we have had Range Rovers in our Family I have being usin Morris Oil (semi synthetic) that costs about £19 for 5ls, and I need 7.5l for the car, so i buy two, then 1 the next time....
But i got a few tubes when there was a sale on in Vx so just wondering if it will be ok to use in the Rangey?

Oh and will the red anti-freeze be ok too??

VX Semi will be fine in a Rover V8, as will the coolant. Just give it a good flush beforehand to get rid of any old coolant.

Just had a look the Morris is 15w 50 (thought it was semi syn but doesn't say :-?) ACEA A2/B2

Vx says 10w 40 ACEA A3/B3

does that make sense to anyone??

A3 is a newer specification than A2, and superior.

It's a thinner oil, of course, but a RV8 will be fine on 40 visc.

Actualy, the early design V8's arnt so good on the thinner oils as they are still a very old fashioned two cog style oil pump (which has to be primed!), particularly once they get to high mileage.

But, the Vx mineral oil would be ok.

I thought older V8's needed 20w/50

Do you think I should care on using the Morris oil then Mark?

The Vx standard mineral oil is good in the V8.

These units require good oil flow to work well and need VERY regular oil changes to keep this leviathan of the engine world in shape.

Its very dependent on the state of the engine, when they get tired they need such thick oil just to keep them quiet. When new 5W40 is often used.

I always used the standard mineral oil to good effect.

Knitting was mentioned the other night. I dare not say too much to SWMBO about the content of some lines  conversation on here, apparently I am ‘sad’ as it is for spending time on here. Never happy, used to complain when I spent time on ebay, this is much cheaper, spent no money in the last couple of months and she still comments.

 :) :) :)
